Sunday River will be installing a new Chondola from the base of South Ridge to the top of North Peak. The lift will be a Doppelmayr/CTEC. Here's the link:

Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

Any news on the new Village to Village gondola at Mont Tremblant? Is it still on track to open in a few months for the summer?

Big News!

From Solitude:

"We’re delighted to announce two new high-speed detachable technology lifts will be installed this summer – Apex and Moonbeam – our primary mountain entry lifts. They will be in the same alignment. In addition, extensive grading and trail improvements from those two top terminals will occur along with continuing extensions of snow-making system. We’re again investing upwards of $8 million; the summer will be challenging."

Shocking that they are replacing a 2 year old fixed grip quad!

Sounds like something ASC would do.

Hopefully Solitude will relocate this lift some where else on the mountain, but where is the question?

Can the existing FGQ be modified to convert to HSQ? Powderhorn chair would make more sense to upgrade than Apex. Last time I skied Solitude, hardly anyone rode Apex and Powderhorn had a line. Having both Apex and Powderhorn HSQ (projected for 09) will really pack a lot of people on the hill.

Where is the cabriolet lift going at WP? Are they still reinstalling Timberline FGD somewhere. My personal wish list is for another recycle (similar to old Outrigger) to be installed back in the Cirque. It would be nice to at least make a few laps back there after the 25 min walk for a very short run with a long traverse at the bottom also. I also have by eye on the steep bowl to the left about half way up the Panoramic chair hoping they will install a recycle in there one day but please no more HSSs (I already know about the plans for Zephyr but hopefully that will be the last one.)

The current Moonbeam lift already has the line gear necessary to be upgraded to a HSQ.

The cabriolet is going to be installed from the Vintage parking lot to the new village South of the Zephyr Mountain Lodge. The following seasons will see the replacement of Zephyr w/ a HSS and using the Zephyr lift to replace Sunnyside. Sunnyside would be relocated to replace Arrow. The old Timberline lift will be used to replace Looking Glass, haven't heard if it will be this summer or next though. Both the Arrow lifts and Looking Glass will then be permanently retired.

According to saminfo.com, Boreal is getting a new Doppelmayr CTEC quad to replace Gunnar's. It will be called Castle Peak Quad.

Very cool that the old Timberline aka Big Hitch from the lost area Stagecoach up in Steamboat is still around, I figured WP would have scrapped her. Given the fact she was built around 1972 but sat unused for many years before going to Sol Vista and then WP.

Heavenly has decided to replace the Galaxy SLI Double with a HSQ this summer. I guess they decided to delay the upgrade of the Northbowl Riblet Triple for now.

Heavenly Upgrades

I wonder if they are going to upgrade Northbowl and the Boulder Riblet Triple at the same time since there is a possibility of moving the base of Northbowl to the Boulder Lodge (which would utilize the old liftline of Boulder I/Boulder II double before the removal of the midstation and the realignment of Boulder I to the its current alignment as the Boulder triple). There is talk of making both chairs HSQs.

This would take away a lift change and allow a person to get to Olympic Express or the East Peak Lodge utilizing only one chair when one parks at the Boulder Lodge instead of having to disembark from Boulder and then load Northbowl.

Galaxy does need to go though!

The old Three Kings chair is actually one of the busiest lifts on the mountain now that there's a terrain park and the superpipe down there.

Once Ski Team is gone, Jupiter, Thaynes, and Motherlode will be the remaining Yans at PCMR.

Edit: Maybe someone posted this already, I've been gone a couple days, but PCMR confirmed it's building the new Ski Team HSQ for next year, starting from the Payday base area and moving up to the top of Crescent, as well as a (much needed) Mid Mountain Lodge renovation
