Here's an article on the Sunday River Chondola from maybe a month ago. "If all approvals are received, it could be installed next summer"

Doubtful information......still need civil engineers with state specific stamps to design foundations.

Good call.

Last time I looked in the window at Salt Lake everybody was doing a worthy job in the engineering department.
Lot of engineering goes into a lift in the USA....civil, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, general cartooning, etc.

Yes Jan had a lot of state engineering licenses on his office wall (more than I ever saw one man have) but there are others in the building with a few.
Most of the lift foundation engineering gets farmed out to free agent engineers with state specific licenses.

Are you a Dop employee in fear of loosing his job or a frenchman with Austrian envy? :w00t:

I know that there are a LOT of good people there doing lots of good work and I would hate to see any of them loose their job.

I'm just a crippled guy who used to work for them and heard some news that didn't make much sense so I thought I'd bounce it off the wall here but perhaps I'm not worthy and don't know enuff to contribute sorry if I caused any delays in the compilation of the oh so important list of lifts that might happen next summer.

I've been to France & Austria but unfortunately I was born in Colorado :w00t:

that Doppelmayr was going to shut down some of their North American operations and rely more on parts from Europe.

The last I had heard was that Doppelmayr in Austria was "maxed" supplying the rest of the world and had no production capabilities for North America.
Towers and crossarms are "dumb steel". It doesn't matter where they are produced. The major structural components are another story with closer tolerances required. They will probably continue to be produced in St. Jerome, even with the devaluation of the American Peso.

Word from the shop- maybe, maybe not. I wouldn't say it's a sure thing until steel's in the parking lot. Old Millicent is in Spokane getting refurbished and even with the good year Crystal's been having, the quad isn't a done deal.

Steamboat plans:

We are currently working through the approval process with the Forest Service and have engaged Leitner - Poma to do an engineering study on replacing the existing Thunderhead Express with a 6 place detachable chairlift with a capacity of 2,800 skiers per hour and relocating the equipment from Thunderhead Express to the Elkhead liftline. A detachable chairlift in this location will increase efficiencies as lower level skiers have difficulty in loading the current fixed quad. Although the theoretical capacity of the lifts is the same, we all know how many times this lift stops due to the passenger having difficulty loading.

We hope to accomplish this project next summer.

No worries mjturley34, I am a grumpy sensative old man that relies on the industry for food and get worried when I hear rumors that the grocery store is closing!
Pretty funny comment about frenchies huh? Hey Dino!

Is Indy @ Breck still going to be extended this summer, with the return terminal being brought down to the new Peak 7 base?

huh, as civil engineer myself, we typically don't worry to much about out-sourcing to other countries because many of the projects are too site specific. While I don't design anything related to lifts, I would assume, like what was said above, this would be true here.

Doppelmayr are discontinuing the AB controls that CTEC were supplying. The are going to Pilz after they use up their existing stock. I don't know if the Pilz panels will be built in SLC, or whether they will source them from Austria or St. Jerome.

Here is an e-mail I recieved from the public relations person at Okemo about new lifts next year:

Dear Ryan,

Thank you for your interest in Okemo Mountain Resort. Nothing is definite, but the plan for a new lift at Jackson Gore is to replace the two carpet lifts in the base area with an overhead chairlift. Then, at least one of the 400-foot carpet lifts will replace the Poma lift in the Galaxy Bowl (Children’s Snowstars area) in the clock tower base area. Our master plan for Jackson Gore also includes a gondola from the base to the summit (near the terminus of the North Star Express), but there is no set timeline on that right now.

Cheers,

Bonnie

Revelstoke is moving ahead in 08 with LPoma for two chair lifts and the second stage of the Gondola.
Nothing is so perfectly amusing as a total change of ideas.

I've been hearing similar things, although its leaning more towards "Not going to happen this summer." Aparently they are going to worry about the Northway return trail instead.
