The new owner of Alyeska has big plans for new lifts. Chairs 3 replaced this summer; chair 1 removed, chair 4 moved to new alingment (similar to chair 1), and a HSQ to replace chair 4 summer 09; chair 6 gets new terminals and carries in 2010. It sure will be nice to get replace all the old riblets. I'm not sure but all the new lifts should Dopplmyar. Theres even talk about a lift to ridge which will open an amazing playground and it would add another 1200 ft of vert.

Would they go to the trouble of moving a lift and then replacing it the next summer?

So just wondering, who is the manufacturer for the new chondola? I would assume Doppelmayr-CTEC, but you never know...

I would assume Doppelmayr CTEC. I heard today that they may opt to replace the Lone Peak triple chair too and have it run all the way to the top of that chair.

Sorry if I wasn't clear chair 4 a FGQ is being moved to replace an old Ribet double and the new HSQ are done the same summer, 09. The old riblet needs to be replaced 30 "Alaskan" winters have taken its toll. Chair 4 is the main mover out of the base and managment wants start the base area "renovation" with some new lifts. There's plans for a new base area and condos to go with. Hope this helps some. Jeff

That's 24 lifts. Last year, I posted a list 2 weeks earlier than this and there were 37 lifts on it, all of which were built. It is not looking good for new construction this year. Maybe it has to do with the sluggish economy?

What about the new lifts planned for Alyeksa?

I don't think a sluggish economy has anything to do with it unless you want to consider the U.S. dollar being so low. You also have to realize it's a lot harder for ski resorts to get permits these days than in the past. Several ski areas face this problem like White Pass.

Believe it or not I have never seen a lift construction season effected by its current economy.
Even in a crummy year, people still go skiing, spend money, buy ski lifts.

Crystal's Bullion Basin is now going to be an HSQ. Seems over doing it because it gets more sun and the snow won't stay as well.

Wouldn't surprise me to see two more Doppelmayr CTEC HSQs on that list eventually, Motherlode at PCMR and Deer Crest at Deer Valley

I wouldn't count on seeing a HSS going in to replace Zephyr next season. Do expect though to see a Cabriolet going from the vintage parking lot to the center of the new village at the base of WP. A cabin is already sitting outside the real estate office next to the zephyr lift.

Wow that's interesting. I wouldn't see why they would shut down SLC because they have been ramping up production there over the past few years, and St. Jerome is where all the detachable pieces are made. I wouldn't see why they'd want to ship big pieces from Europe because that isn't cheap. I guess it would make sense to shut down some of the smaller offices like the one in Arvada, (don't they only deal with skyrides anyway?) and isn't there one back east in Vermont? It might have been part of their plan since the merger, but who knows?

Doppelmayr CTEC still has the old Von-Roll Hall facility in Watertown, New York.

Doubtful information......still need civil engineers with state specific stamps to design foundations.

Alyeska is getting a Dopp. FGQ to replace chair 3, an old riblet.

I don't know if it's for this summer or not but an instructor at Steamboat told me that they might replace the thunderhead express lift with a hss, and the elkhead lift with a hsq, but once again i don't know when that'll be
