I met with Doug Tanner, son of Ray Tanner and he unloaded years of scrapbook/photo's from Ski Acres for 1947-1980 including numerous shots of the single chairlift, installation of Ski Acres riblet doubles, and so much more. As I start my archival of this for him I'll upload some of the photo's. This was a very nice collection of stuff, mostly collected by Ray Tanners' wife.

Stay tuned...............

Haha, that kid is smiling because he finally gets to ride the lift after waiting in line for 2 hours!

As for the lift, I would say Riblet.

Did they leave any trees on the mountain when they first cut it?

Not sure, But a lot of those first single chairs were built by CF&I, although it does not look like the sheaves that were normally on a CF&I.

Actually, there are two teasers pictured......

Great Pictures!

The lift line is so typical of the day. One lost vertical feet of skiing by lining up
in the fall line instead of using the maze. Oh, boy, do I ever remember that.

Riblet drive terminal on a Miner-Denver double in the Black Hills of So.Dak. The Riblet clips, on occasion
would contact the rims of the M-D sheaves.

I have BOXES of photo's and newspaper articles covering aprox the first 25 years of operation of Ski Acres. I told Doug Tanner I'd setup a website to display the informaton his mother had gathered for the area. I ordered a new scanner which should be here in a couple days then I'll start scanning the photo's. It is the newspaper articles that will be very time consuming. They have some photo's that are extra large (up to I'd guess 18"x11") so I need to find a large scanner for those. He also has 8mm video I hope to convert, possibly to youtube stuff.

You might check around for someone that can put your movies onto DVD format. I did that with some old family movies that were getting brittle and about to be lost forever.

Ahh, the first 2 "lessons" in skiing. 1) Side step 2) Herringbone.
It amazes me how many people nowadays don't know how to do a "kick turn".
