I've got pictures of Killington's south Ridge quad (Yan) on my site. It is set up like a triangle with the chairs going up one side, turning than returning back on the hypotanuse (sp?)

And of course there are the many gondolas of the world that turn by detaching.

Killington Skyeship
Whistler Gondi
Wank Bahn, Garmish,Germany
Videmanette Gondola, Rougemont, Switzerland
Killington's original gondola made 2 turns in angle stations

Some lifts turn without detaching.

NWS, check in your Dopp thesis, in the chapter 4, there is somewhere a description of how does it work. Check for "midstation" in the table of contents.

Look at the forums banner, notice anything weird about the lift line? It turns 3 degrees.

Baldy Express @Snowbird has a dog leg in it.

Kinda wierd

So how exactly does a lift turn?

As Cameron said, the Canyons Cabriolet in the new forum banner turns (I thought it was more like 4 or 5 degrees?) Anyway, it's a 2000 Stealth 3 8-pass cabriolet.

Also, the Baldy Express lift at Snowbird- a 2001 CTEC Stealth HSQ w/ Garaventa chairs- makes a turn too. The way they do it is by angling the sheaves sorta like this:
regular sheaves- front view: |
angled sheaves- front view: \ or / depending on the way the lift will turn. They two lifts mentioned above do it over three towers- the middle one being a depression tower

There's another way to turn:
"Bachmanncurve"

The Baco circling express disk have
90 cable guide blocks, those are locally raised the rope to support.
When driving through, the grip pushed up the cable guide blocks. After the grip passage the blocks, they drop back by their dead weight into the rope-supporting position.
Baldy Express is a fairly new lift being built in 2002.

Breck has two other lifts with angles mid-line: Chair 5 has a depression/support setup where the depressions provide the turn, and the Horseshoe T-Bar is a completely triangular lift with the turn sitting midway up the loaded side.

The T-Bar at Sledz near Mammoth makes a turn 2/3 of the way up. It is a triangle lift.

is that the t-bar for the sledders up the road to main lodge?
