Let It Snow!

November 10, 2003

SEATTLE - The Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow Monday night in the Washington Cascades - eight to 15 inches.

The heaviest accumulations will be above 4,500 feet, but the snow level will drop to about 3,500 feet Tuesday morning, with another three to six inches.

Forecasters expect five to ten inches of snow Monday night in the Olympics with another two-to-four inches tomorrow as a frontal system moves through Western Washington.

In the northeast corner of Washington a winter storm watch is in effect for mountain snow showers. In northern Idaho, a winter storm warning is in effect for mountain snow.

If you took all the rain we've had in the last week and translated it into snow, there would be snow up past the record=breaking season in Washington. Enough so that not a flake of snow would have to be made this whole season

Mt. Baker holds the world record for the most snow at a ski area in the world I believe, and thats in washington. They recieved 1,140 inches for the 98-99 season, when the usual Cascade snow fall is around 300 inches.

Mt. baker averages 645 inches. Alyeska has the second highest average by skiing magazine's top 25 with 518 inches but their site says 782 annual inches of snowfall which would put them in first.

for the last 3 years kirkwood has averaged around 600 inches, but they say 500. Last season it was 650, the year before 715 and before that 450

Why don't they just day 600 then? One bad season shouldn't change their whole ad campaign

because these last few years have been pretty good. The least they would get would probably be 300

Skiinging in the banff area is going to be good this year. the Canmore Nordic center has lots of snow and @ sunshine the ski out is fully open which usualy doesn't happen too early.

It's finally started to really snow here... We're now hovering around 2 feet at the top, and about 1 at the bottom... Half way there to the amount we need for opening!! yay!
