As to whether or not the free skiing deal will attract folks outside of the Southwest market, I believe, may be a far stretch.

I think that the original "ski free" deal was to attract skiers/riders from the Front Range to get them familiar with CB so they would come back later in the season. I don't think they are trying for the Southwest Market as those poeple only ski on Holidays.

Dino you hit it on the head. The only time I skied was during the free ski deal.

I remember one year Crested Butte started with Free skiing and the mountain opened pretty much wall-to-wall with the north face and the glades skiing well. Our upper mountain has snow, but getting to the base is all man made right now.

To get back on topic, I woke up to some snow this morning. Less than an inch, but it is still coming down! This has been our first accumulating snow here in Minnesota. Also, the temps at night and during the day are finally getting low enough for snow making. As of last night, Buck Hill began snowmaking operations. As of this morning, the entire ski area has snow. Hyland also began their snowmaking operation last night. Buck Hill finally was able to test out the several new snowmaking pipes and guns that they added this year! Below are some webcam images from this morning! From what I have heard, Buck Hill is going 100% on snowmaking and grooming in an attempt to open on Saturday or Sunday! If they are open by Sunday, I may take a trip there and take some pictures too!

If you cold call about a half inch of snow winter, then winter has arrived.

We don't have much either... but there is something off the coast that will hopefully bring us some snow!

This week is looking good for snow at Keystone, not because of the forcast but because we have NORAM races this week and every year we have hosted them we have recieved 6-24".

Basically nothing here in Sunapee, NH, but cold temps and snowmaking have gotten us 7 trails (2 ways down) and one lift.

Winter arrived here in Michigan on Thanksgiving.

Nub's Nob, Boyne Highlands, & Boyne Mountain were able to open a few runs on Sat. 11/24, thanks to some cold weather that arrived Wed. night before. It stayed cold throughout the daytime and allowed then to make snow nonstop. Some natural lake effect snow also helped things look a little more wintry.

Even the Detroit-are ski hills were able to get open on Saturday. Mt. Holly & Pine Knob opened, and I think Alpine Valley did too, thanks to some cold weather.

Considering last year was a mid-Dec start, so far things are looking good, especially with the 7-10 day forecast. Considering Thankgiving was early this year, its always good to get some revenue in November.

------

On the flip side, I'm headed out to Colorado next weekend. I hear there may be a storm brewing. How are things at the Vail Resorts looking? Any additional terrain that may be opening in the next few days? Man-made, or otherwise?

At Keystone we have been making snow like crazy with more terrain opening soon, hopefully. What is there is in good condition and is good coverage. Sorry I don't have a report for the other VR areas since I haven't skied except for work yet. We are predicted to have 2-4" tomorrow morning and friday more snow but no snowfall predictions as of yet.

Although I have no first-hand report, I have heard that the snow is mostly man-made, with some fresh stuff on top! Great base, but crowded. I know that Breck and Vail are still only open with a few runs and lifts. As soon as more terrain opens, hopefully this weekend, the skiers/riders will hopefully spread out. :wacko2:

Not only is mt. hood getting some good snow, but Portland's forecast shows a possibility for some snow... this is going to be a good year!
