As for Crystal, I heard from someone who was up there yesterday that they still haven't poured those top 3 breakover tower foundations. I thought that they would be able to do those towers with a crane, but apparently all 19 towers need to be done by the helicopter. So it seems unlikely to me that they will be ready to fly all the towers next Monday. As of last weekend the rebar cages were done but still down in the lot. Does anyone know how long concrete takes to cure in a tower footing? There is also snow forecast for much of this week.
This was on the TGR board: "I heard a good rumor about the new chair at Crystal. Last weekend I was visiting a friend of mine who runs a business up at Schweitzer. While I was there I struck up a conversation with a regional rep. for the Doppelmayr company (Schweitzer just installed a new Doppelmayr over the summer). The thoughts of the rep. were that the new Northway chair at Crystal would not be done in time for this upcoming winter and that the Crystal management was "delusionaly optimistic" about completing the lift on time. He said he had talked to "his guy's" at Crystal the day before our conversation and that the crew at Crystal was talking to management about getting to a good stopping point before winter set in and resuming construction next summer. The rep. said that because there are no summer roads that access the area of the new lift, everything (trees, const. materials, etc.) needed to be hauled in and out using the heli, and that Crystal only employed one heli. I guess the good news is that for our higher priced passes there is a possibility we may get one more season of northback freshies. Personaly, I hope that the snow falls early this winter and thing's pan out this way."
I think Crystal will finish the lift, but they are cutting it damn close. It is already very cold and snowy up there. We'll just have to wait and see. I am planning on watching the helicopter set the towers on Monday if it happens. I think the crucial thing for them to do is get the last footings done in the next few days and the top drive station assembled by crane before the snow makes the road inaccessible. It seems like wiring, string the cable, and hanging the chairs can all be done in the snow. The giant crane that is up there could make a cool jump though this winter if it gets snowed in!
