I sure hope we have a good winter! Last year was the :censored2: pits!! Most of Yosemite's waterfalls are dry now  And the Merced River looks like a creek in places.

Last two years have been great! I'm kinda worried this will be not so great.

No snow until November- we need all the time we can get!

On a related note- why is it that people wil wait in line for days, camp out in parking lots, and endure marginal conditions to ski in October on one run? I think if we (as an industry) cooled off a bit and opened up around Thanksgiving there'd be more snow and more terrain open right off the bat. We could have the same length of season if we stayed open longer, say all the way through April instead of closing within the first two weeks. Most places I've skiied have excellent spring coverage, and the whole mountain's open then. Ah well, I just fix lifts. What do I know?

Yeah, as much as the skier in me wants snow now, the ski area lifts guy in me wants no snow until at least the middle of November. Still many little projects to finish that just take up too much time.
Chairlift n. A transportation system found at most ski areas in which a series of chairs suspended from a cable rapidly conveys anywhere from one to eight skiers from the front of one line to the back of another.

And if we focused on opening runs instead of opening hits in the terrain park things would be much safer and we'd be able to accomodate more skiers/riders who'd have a better experience and come back later in the year instead of saying "oh that sucked in November, let's go to a movie instead".

I am really hoping for a decent snow year for us! Last year was the worst in years. The 4 years before have been lame too. It's time for a good season. I really am looking forward to snow, but I think you industry guys must be in a scramble to get the lifts turning by November.

Looks like a good start for CO though.

So. Lake Tahoe had snow this am.
After the wind settled Wednesday night a much-anticipated front moved into the Lake Tahoe Basin early this morning bringing with it between 2 to 3 inches of snow above 7,000 feet and a nice dusting in Stateline and South Lake Tahoe.

Yep  we had to wait six months for parts from DoppelmayrCTEC (SLC) for parts for this lift. We just got them in the air last week and started line service yesterday. Luckily it's a relatively short lift with mostly 2 rockers on the downhill side so we'll be done on Monday.

This subject always comes up as September fades. To me (and likely others like me... check that, there aren't any) it creates a knot in the pit of the stomach. True, snow pays our bills - but it also thwarts our efforts to do our jobs. Snow should begin to fall on a prescribed date - so we can plan our work accordingly. Where are the creative meteorologists? This is a problem that needs solving!
