That old CTEC Tripple at Crystal, did it go somewhere else? How long ago was it removed?

It moved over just a bit to become the Gold Hills chair at Crystal in 1984.

The old "CTEC" triple isn't a "CTEC" triple. Its a Thiokol Triple, before CTEC bought the designs. It was removed and re-installed. It replaced an old T-Bar. The reason it was removed was that area never got any good coverage of snow and it was SW facing. The new location for the triple has the same problem, but a bit better. Its usually the last lift to open during the season and one of the first to close (at least when I was a lift supervisor).

I am actually anxious to see what happens with the new lift that will be installed in its old spot. I want to see if the same problems plague it, like the old ones did to the triple.

Yeah, I think it is kind of funny that the area that was served by a 1974 triple is now going to be served by a 1974 double!

Okay, here are some pictures. The foundations are all ready, but still no towers or sheaves in the lot. The bottom station is almost complete. They are just starting on the top station, with the footing location marked. They have excavated a good 30 feet off of the top of Northway Peak to make way for the top station.

I found a good spot up by the old Gun Tower to watch the helicopter fly the towers from. That will be around September 30th. I am thinking they are going to have to lift the excavator out with the helicopter while it is there.

Are they working weekends to get this project done? The 30th would be a Sunday. Skier, can you get some exact dates?

The bottom station was flown in last Sunday by a special Boeing helicopter. So far, they have not been working weekends other than that. Yesterday there were just two guys working trying to deal with the tipped excavator. The 30th is not set in stone, it depends on when they can get the helicopter, when the towers arrive from SLC, and when the weather is clear. They are going to let me know when they know the exact date. It was originally late August, then early September, then September 15, now September 30th. After the towers are in, all they have left to do is the top station and 3 breakover towers, and then the cable and wiring.

A 1974 Yan center pole. I think it will be the only Yan in Washington state.

And they are tripling the size of D-Lot and building G and H lots.

How are they tripling the size of D-lot? If I recall correctly, the eastern edge of the lot sits on the bank of the creek, same as E and F-lots. I assume C-lot is staying as is?

Here's a story and video from WCAX Burlington, VT about the Mad River Glen single. Footage includes flying restored towers on the mountain.

Does anyone have any pictures of the projected lift line for the new Village to Village gondola at Mont Tremblant? Any pics of construction if it's already begun. Intrawest says it will be operational by Summer 2008. How far ahead would they have to start building to get it done for that time frame? Any information on manufacturer and configuration?

Thanks

Tremblant, for budget problems because of the sewage systems on Versant Soleil, has decided to drop this project for this summer and send it up to 2009 or 2010, but they are keeping the "sous-bois" project on the Edge. The lift will probably be a Dopplemayr built by them, or else a private contractor will stand it up

You're right. They are actually halving both B and F lots. Then adding G, H, and I across the highway. The advantage is the new lots will have ski in ski out access to the new Bullion Basin base area with direct access to and from the Kelly's Gap Express and Bullion Bain lifts.

So there will still be parking in the lower lot (B-lot) for close-in access to the new lifts. At first I thought you said the B-lot was going to disappear entirely. I wonder if the shop area will stay as is with the new lifts down there, or if it will have to move? I've seen at several areas that the maintenance facilities sit on prime real estate, either for housing/condos in the resort model such as Copper or where one would like more parking such as Crystal.

Looks like the D-C brought back the Girak carrier design, but made a few changes to it.

Sounds like L-Poma has pulled out of Mt. Baldy in BC .... money issues...

Interesting. Poma has run into problems with areas before, I can think of the six pack at Ragged Mountain that was installed but not paid for then repossessed. It wasn't removed though and under new owners is operational. If you look at Baldy's cam they have just the Alpha frame and some chairs. No towers or drive yet installed. In the last few days the operator shack has gone up though. Also, Poma updated photos on all their lifts on Sept. 19 except Baldy's which is from Aug. 7th.
