I got an update from Crystal, they flew the entire bottom terminal today with a twin engine helicopter. They are now going to do the towers around the 30th. I am planning on going up next weekend and when they do the towers and then once in October.

There is an excellent new video from Crystal of the installation of the bottom terminal with a dual rotor helicopter. http://www.skicrystal.com/1733.html

Also, here is the new Galaxy III terminal from Doppelmayr CTEC at Red.

I hiked up for the 6th time to Crystal today. I will post a full report later of the Northway progress. The very bad news is that the Swiss-made Kaiser Spider Excavator they were using tumbled upside down and is perched on top of a cliff. There were two guys there who warned me to watch out because it could fall at any time. The good news is I think everyone was okay.

Okay, here are some pictures. The foundations are all ready, but still no towers or sheaves in the lot. The bottom station is almost complete. They are just starting on the top station, with the footing location marked. They have excavated a good 30 feet off of the top of Northway Peak to make way for the top station.

I found a good spot up by the old Gun Tower to watch the helicopter fly the towers from. That will be around September 30th. I am thinking they are going to have to lift the excavator out with the helicopter while it is there.

Skier, I wonder have you see Millicent Old Lift set up yet? IF you see them and do you mind to post some pictures?

I haven't gone to Brighton to take the pictures of a new lift yet and I will try on this thursday if the weather is good.

Millicent has not even arrived at Crystal yet, I presume it is in storage somewhere. It will not be installed until at least next summer or the next. I did take a picture today of the area where it is going...

So there used to be a lift there then? The weird thing about the flipped over Spider is its laying on the uphill side which is possible but not as likely. Also the area doesn't look steep enough to tip it over.

Why couldn't they of come up with "Global Cooling"?

Yeah, the new lift will be in the exact location of the old one, except it will load on the opposite side of the road. B-Lot is going to be mostly eliminated to make way for the new Bullion Basin Lodge.

And the Spider's location is a LOT steeper than it looks.

I don't like the fact that Crystal is becoming a "resort" rather than a "ski area". If they tear out lot B, they are going to have a parking problem on weekends.

You really have no idea what you are talking about. They are tearing out B-lot to make way for the Bullion Basin base area, and restore the wetland that is covered by B-lot. This base area will not have any lodging, just a second major day lodge. It will have the Kelly's Gap Express that links with the Green Valley and Northway chairs. And they are tripling the size of D-Lot and building G and H lots. So they are not becoming any more of a resort anytime soon. If they were, Northway would be a high speed six, not a double. I think Boyne has done a pretty darn good job with Crystal.

I agree.....

That fact that Northway is a double is a good indicator that Crystal is still trying to be a skiers mountain, not a Sun Valley or Aspen etc.......
