I know Sun Valley is there, but there was an area for Baldie whcih did not have any photos or info attached. skilifts.org is down again, not able to access it.

The Sun Valley page is indeed Bald Mountain. The Bald Mountain listed on the Idaho page may be a different Idaho ski area called Bald Mountain. The Dollar Mountain page is for the beginner ski area in Sun Valley.

I'm not sure if this has been said but Sun Valley website has some great movies of the fire fighting. The first shows planes dropping their fire retardent. The secend has a view of a chopper dropping the same stuff on the ski area its self and the snowmaking going. The third is a tour of the fire with the US Forest Service.

Yeah, the vidoes are pretty cool. Those aircraft have been flying over our heads for two weeks now. Its a beautiful sound! Here is the link....

They've lifted the evacuation for our area.

Also, check out these pictures from Idaho Mt Express

Here are some pics from down the street from our place.

I'm unclear, is the ski area on fire now?

No. A few areas of grass and brush burned, but the ski area has been largely spared so far. They kept it at bay pretty much right up to the ski area boundary on three different sides.

Right now its 78% contained, at 47,318 acres. For the first time since this damn thing began, its growth potential has been dropped from extreme, to high. So, it not over yet but, its end is near. If you look at the maps, its has started to burn back toward itself. Basically its going to starve itself to death. Unless it gets a huge wind event, it should be 100% contained in a few days.

It is so weird to think that everywhere I hiked or bike last month, except Dollar Mountain, was burned. The entire Warm Springs trail appears to be through burnt areas, as well as most of Cold Springs, and many of the Fox Creek trails. It will be very different next summer.

I am very happy to hear that you and your property and neighbors are ok. As for the changes in the envrionment, well look at it this way, its MA Nature's way of reminding us who is really in charge, and it gives the community a chance to pull together, go up and plant some trees and work together.
