Good to know I'm not the only one who has a pic at the top of a tower at Sugarbush! I skied there all last winter. Still debating whether I'm gonna go back, the passes went up by $150!!!! It would be okay if they ran slide brook midweek. Maybe you could work on management about that!

I don't know if you ever work North (err Mt. Ellen, sorry marketing director) but I was the one that spotted the RPD bouncing against the haul rope on tower 14 of North Ridge on the last Weds of the season over there. Damn depression towers!

I'm off topic but, just to clarify, you probably noticed it when we were clearing the line. We were notified of the problem when the lift stopped on a CPS fault (it's a Poma, so it's not an RPD). One of the mechanics went up to do a visual inspection and noticed a bolt on the bracket for the Turck switch was broken. He made sure everything else was okay so we could unload the passengers and then the bracket was replaced.

Thank you for the clarification. However - CPS (cable position sensor) is my acronym - presented to Poma along with a proposal for a new proximity switch in 1992. J.F. knows this - he initiated the patent search to see if the new product was in conflict with Jan's RPD patent. The patent was in conflict, but it seems that the name stuck.

In my mind, Poma's sensor is not a CPS either. It seems that I'm in the "acronyms for free" business. Believe me, it a non-profit organization.

My intention was to clarify that we don't rely on the general public to inform us of issues with a lift. However, in light of the information you provided, we will henceforth refer to the monitoring switches on the Pomas as CRAP switches (Corroborate Rope Appropriately Positioned). If there's a fault, I guess it will still annunciate as a CPS fault, but we'll train the operators and attendants to use the new acronym. For example, they could call dispatch and report that, "the uphill side of tower 18 just CRAPped out."

Haha well we should propose this Poma and at the resort I worked at (killington) we had both Yans and Pomas so RPD was the general term used though the fault announciator DID say CPS system 1 or 2 fault. I apologize for my grammatical error and I was not trying to say that you did rely on the general public to tell you that a lift was broken. I responded further in my PM to you.

The highest vert. I've ever hiked to get to a ski run, was about 30ft. I'm not big on hiking.

Lame! I hardly go a day of skiing without hiking somewhere. You've got to get away from the crowds!
