Well, they've sure gotten a long way on that.

Why'd they even close the tram in the first place?

I believe it was because they needed money to pay for a new tram and "Last Year of the Tram!" was their huge marketing campaign 2 years ago. They crushed their skier visit record that year. They are using the old tram to move parts and workers for the new tram so it will stay up until next summer. If they were not trying to get visits out of it, they would have said, "we are replacing the tram, and it will be closed temporarily for 2 seasons" not "we are closing the tram and don't have money to buy a new one! Come visit during the last season of the tram!" Then of course at the end of the season they say "we are building a new tram after all with our own money!"

I fell for it, but it was fun to make it back to Jackson. I have looked to see what work will be completed this year on the new tram, vs what will be next year when it opens. Haven't found anything that breaks it down the time line. Anybody have a idea of work will be completed and when? Also is anything from the old tram, such as towers going to be used , or is it going to be 100% new?

I think the towers were one of the main reasons why the tram was going to be replaced.

Track rope fellas.... 4 million to replace them so the decision was to replace the whole tram.
:crying:
Skier....what did you eat for breakfast?
Calm down or are you studying to be a marketing major or just an attorney?

I just think it is funny how they made a big deal about closing the tram with no replacement, only to announce a replacement at the end of the season. And no, I would never go into marketing or law.

Will the new tram be larger? The old one seemed really nice.

Yes, 100 passengers per cabin instead of 50 or whatever it was.

They only let 52 in, though. but the new one will be nice and more than double the uphill capacity.

This summer they're drilling for the tower foundations and pouring the concrete for them. Tower 4 is complete and as far as I know they're on schedule. In September/October Garaventa will come in to spool track cables and haul rope. I think I heard that they want to do a lot of the demolition of Valley Station during the winter, not sure about Mountain Station. Towers will remain for the winter and will be disassembled and flown out in the spring. Please keep in mind this is only what I've heard.

Then will that part of the mountian be closed? I've never been there so is there other lifts serving that area?

Nothing will be closed as far as I know. They installed a DoppelmayrCTEC fixed grip double chair in Rendezvous Bowl last summer to keep upper mtn. terrain open because of the loss of the tram. When the Tram is complete, the "East Ridge" lift will be moved to another location on the mtn. which hasn't been decided.

I heard that the double might go up past the Bridger to serve the crags area.

I hope not...I think you should do the hike if you want to ski that stuff. I think they should put the drive terminal down in the amphitheater, and have it terminate just to looker's left of the Bridger Restaurants. This way, if you're skiing the upper mountain and you want to come up for lunch, you don't have to ski all the way to the base and ride Bridger back up. I think they could make some money this way, and keep people that don't belong in the crags, or casper bowl out of there.

I think I read that in one of their press releases too, that it would go the Crags area.

All towers are up, the bottom terminal is nearly complete and top is getting there.
