Do those lifts still run? They all look operational and in that picture of the Village Double has a functional control pedestal in it.

Yes, the plan is to reopen it as a private club next ski season.

The lifts do look very operational. I guess owners may take VIP guests up every now and then and run the lifts on small demand. "For club members only" signs are posted in different places, such as around the lifts. I haven't heard that they will be opening this next season, but it will be interesting to see how they plan on launching this into the market. Oh by the way, the entry sign reads "Mount Holly-- The world's finest private ski and golf resort." None of the ski or golf photos on the website are local, yet.
Setting aside my snooty attitude toward this, really now--I'd like to see what they can do here. I guess I'm just jealous.

Are these guys aware that similar club just like Mount Holly exists, called the Yellowstone Club?

I was wondering what was happening with elk meadows, we sold them a Yan double about 9 years ago. Removing it was one of the first projects I worked on when I started here.

Which Yan double was that that went there?

I believe it was the one that ran next to the current beginner double chair, which was made famous in the Warren Miller movies with the saying "Want your ski, go get it!" The double that ran next to the beginner double chair was upgraded to a triple chair.

Which area are we talking about though?

It would be the former Chair 2 lift at Snow Valley.

It was lift #7 at Snow Valley, the one from the warren miller movie is lift #6. Lift #6 and #2 are a bit unique because they share towers for about the first 10, #6 is a double, #2 is a triple.

So then what happened to the former Chair #2 prior to it being converted/replaced with a triple?

That would be before my time, the existing lift 2 is a Yan with type 3 style grips and was installed in the early 80's, maybe 83 or so. The footings from the previous lift are still visible in a few places. Goos chance that we are recycling it as we speak, we are cleaning up our boneyard ($200 per ton).

ELK MEADOWS TO BE AUCTIONED
November 3, 2009


SAM Magazine--Beaver, Utah, November 2, 2009--The defunct Elk Meadows Ski Area is now up for auction on-line at http://www.lfc.com/820r2. Minimum bid for the 1,100-acre property is $1,000,000 and the suggested value is $5,150,000. The ski area includes 36 trails, two lodges, six lifts and nine condos.

In 2004, Elk Meadows went bankrupt and has remained closed since then. In 2006, CPB Development formed Mount Holly Partners LLC and proposed a $3.5 billion plan to local planning authorities for a Yellowstone Club-style resort at Elk Meadows, which met with local opposition. After receiving conceptual approvals from Beaver Zoning and Planning, the development company was dogged with controversy, including a high-ranking member that was under investigation for fraud and unfair marketing practices. This past summer, Mount Holly Partners filed for bankruptcy protection.

Deadline for the auction is November 20.
