The Seven Springs article spelled Doppelmayr CTEC right, I'm impressed, even though the 'workhorse' quote is right off the CTEC website. One more thing I noticed on their trail map, they sold the naming rights to their other six pack (the Coca Cola Polar Bear Express). Looks like a fun place
Doesn't "over $3 million" seem a little low for a new six pack? (I know, technically it's right, but shouldn't the price tag be well over 3 million?)

Well I feel stupid, I read only 3/4 of the article.

In the article it says:
Most of the components for the Fort Wayne Sky Safari ride originally hauled skiers up the slope at Burke Mountain ski resort in East Burke, Vt., Pendleton said.

So my guess would be the old shurburne double.

That would be my best guess being the Sherburne Double lift. The lift will need at least new towers and new chairs as it was a single double double lift, and the tower tubes got reused on the new Sherburne Express.

There will surely be more to add soon. From Mad River Lifts sales site, it appears Steamboat may be putting in a new lift as well as Homewood. I also think Moonlight or Tamarack might be getting a new lift as well. Also Silver Star could be getting a new Summit high speed quad which has been in the works for awhile. Sno Mountain, PA has "new lift coming '07" on their site, it would be a Doppelmayr CTEC hsq. So with 32 lifts and counting, Doppelmayr CTEC is going to be really busy this summer.

I'm still trying to figure out how Doppelmayr CTEC will be able to finish all these lifts, although two are almost done. Maybe some crews from Doppelmayr of Europe will be helping with the installation of these lifts.

Boyne has recently done their lifts internally without Doppelmayr crews. Green Valley at Crystal as well as Eagle and Easy Rider at Cypress were not installed by Doppelmayr. I am presuming that they will do the same this time around. I'm not sure about Brighton.

uh, has this been said before? the "Northway" lift at Crystel is a Doppelmayer high speed double. with a capactity of only 1,200 people per hour! There goes the "back country expirence".

It is not high speed. It was very sad today, the last day ever for North Backcountry. I don't think people really believe it will be gone next year. I skied it 6 times today on its last day, so that was good.

It will still be there, just have a few more people on it thats all. I would think (and hope) that a good amount of people will avoid the area because of its advanced terrain. But your right, it won't be the same.

I taked to a few Crystal folks the other day while I was up there, and they said the lift construction will start as soon as they close. Not sure how much work they can get away with right now because theres still a fair amount of snow up there.

do you think it will be open next season? It seems like one long lift to get working.
you're right it's not high speed, yet not as slow as normal doubles. I think 550ft p. min.?

500 fpm, same speed as most doubles that serve advanced terrin. And yes it will be open next season.

Once a resort knows it is replacing / installing lifts , they will let seasonal employess know that the manufactor may need a crew of people for laborors. To the youngins here , if your at least 18(insurance reasons), and want to learn more about lifts, this is the perfect job for you. Alot of times housing is provided if your really out in the middle of nowhere.
Pluse the manufactor also advertises on thier websites for installation crews. Adn i bet the crew in Utah will bounce around between Brighton and DV, seeing how it's only a short drive over Guardsman Pass during the summer /fall

Here comes Quarter Dollar Express, the shortest High Speed Quad ever! Both new lifts will be Doppelmayr CTEC Uni G's. I will take pics of this project when I am there.


Dollar Mountain lifts go modern

Quarter Dollar and main Dollar ski lifts could be replaced for next season

Dollar Mountain is going modern.

The Sun Valley Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved Sun Valley Co.'s design review application Thursday, April 26, for the replacement of the existing Quarter Dollar and main Dollar ski lifts with new detachable Doppelmayr Uni-G quad lifts.

The plan is to have the new lifts installed, tested and approved for use by opening day of the 2007-2008 ski season. Sun Valley Co. is expected to apply for a demolition permit to remove the existing lifts by early next week.

The two new lifts will run "in the same general path as the existing lifts," said city of Sun Valley Community Development Director Mark Hofman.

The lifts will feature the latest in lift technology with new child enhanced restraint bars, straps to enable children to lower the restraint bar, and tertiary as well as stand-by diesel engines to increase reliability.

The wheelhouse, the main structure of the lifts, will measure approximately 60 feet in length. This is about 20 feet longer than the existing structures.

The commission appeared in accord over the benefits of the proposed project. The color of the lifts and the best way to alleviate their visual impacts, on the other hand, received a fair amount of discussion.

"The question we face is whether to blend them for summer or for winter," said Wally Huffman, general manager for Sun Valley Co. "On Baldy we pretty much went with white."



The biggest concern is the visibility of the lifts on Dollar's summit to Highway 75 drivers coming north, as well as to homeowners located south of the mountain.

"When you see the lifts from that vantage point, you don't associate it with a ski lift," Huffman said.

The commission will set up a committee to investigate which color scheme works best. It will look at white, green, blue or a combination to blend the elements as much as possible with the surrounding terrain.

There also is survey work to be done to ensure the operator shack and wheelhouse for Quarter Dollar lift adheres to the 35-foot setback from the bike path along Elkhorn Road that Outdoor Recreation zoning requires. It doesn't appear to be a problem, since Sun Valley Co. will have between 50 and 80 feet to work with.

Sun Valley Co. has raised the idea of adding lights to Dollar Mountain for evening skiing and other activities, Huffman said. When snowmaking was added to Dollar, electricity was effectively spread across the area potentially allowing for lights. However, this is not part of this application process.

"I feel this needs to be a separate discussion ... to allow for greater opportunity for public participation," Huffman said.
