10 and 14 will be L-P it is very uncommon to have lifts built buy different compnies the same year at the same resort.

Yes, but Vail is just plain different.

Did chair 5 replacement get put on the back burner? I would much rather see that go than chair 10.

Vail mentioned that lifts 10 & 14 would be re-alligned. Any word on how the new allignment will differ from the current allignment?

i think 10 will extend to 2 elk. hopefully they have a unload station at the current top of 10. i wonder if eclipse will buy chair 14 from vail - it would be the exact size/capacity they need

Chair 14 going to be FGQ, right? Chair 10 is going to be a HSQ with relatively low capacity, right?

I'm pretty sure I read that Chair 14 is going to be a HSQ with a new lift line.

I think the plan for chair 14 is to make the unloading area closer to the Two Elk and farther up the hill for easier access to the "bowls". I'm not 100% sure though.

What ever happened to the idea of replacing Chair 6 at Breckenriedge with a low capacity HSQ or HST? I just heard rumors about it.

Correct on Chair 14 - lower terminal in the same area, upper terminal to be closer to Two Elks and allow for a less of a traverse into the access gate/cat for the West Wall.

Chair 6 at Breck is in the master plan, but going to happen later rather than sooner. At least not for next season at this point. A lot of speculation, but not happenin' this year.

Is there any other way to access the chair 10 trails (Highline, Blue Ox, etc) from the top of the mtn without getting caught on that long flat access road (to the top of current chair 10)?

The only other way to the top of chair 10 is to take chair 14 and ski the flat area to one of the green runs over there and ski down to chair 10. There is no other way to the top of chair 10 without taking it from the bottom.

Whatever happened to the two L-P detachable quads that Lutsen, MN was talking about. I just emailed them, but it will be a while until I get a reply. Has anyone heard more about Lutsen installing two new HSQ's to replace Carribou and Bull?

That road is not long at all from Two Elk to the top of 10. I just did it on Sunday and it took like 30 seconds (on skis)

I heard that Lutsen would be getting one HSQ or maybe HSS for Caribou from Charles Skinner and his friends (he co-owns Lutsen). If there is a new lift in store for the bull area, I am unaware of it. Besides, there needs to first be an upgrade of Caribou and the Bridge Chair before Bull get replaced, as the Bridge area is very high traffic at the end of the day especially and I recall one day when one of the chairs came around the bullwheel hanging by one prong and dragging on the ground!

Not sure about Lutsen. Yes, they need it but they have been talking about putting another HSQ or HSS at Granite Peak (Charles also owns that) so I think that may be put in before Lutsen. I just hope I'm wrong.

Oh. I thought they were going to put one in for Bull. But they need one for Caribou and for Bridge especially. Bridge chair needs to be replaced because it is falling apart. It also needs to have more capacity. When I was there the day that they closed the Gondola due to 60-70 mph winds, the Bridge had lines all over the place. They couldn't open Eagle Mountain Chair because it is on the ridge of Eagle Mountain, therefore it is really susceptible to wind. Bridge is long too and could easily be replaced with a HSQ!

Or at least something like a used CTEC FGQ for Bridge would be good. For Moose, Caribou is longer and has more vertical, not to mention seriously deteriorated cement foundations (for towers) and should be replaced before Bull (although even a simple capacity upgrade to a triple or quad with new crossarms, bullwheels, and chairs would be good for Bull). As for the new HSQ at Granite Peak>>It will happen, but Lutsen's upgrades could happen before or at the same time. When Granite first got updates, it used funding from Charles Skinner, who took much of that money from Lutsen's profits and loans. Now Granite is a profit machine, and it will be able to pay for its own new chairlift. With twice as many racers and families traveling to Lutsen this year during midwinter, the area made much more money than in the past, and while the summit chalet undoubtedly cost millions, Lutsen could afford and has money for not only a new lift, but for a village. I have actually seen the plans in the offices above Papa Charlie's. Things just happen a little slower up there...It is very far away after all.

are you sure about the quads for Crested Butte? It seems stupid to replace those lifts, they're not long and never have lift lines.

This summer, Gore Mountain, NY might be replacing one of its chairlifts with a new one.

The new Sky Safari lift being installed at Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo will be a used triple chair from Vermont. The lift was sold and will be installed by SkyTrans. Does anyone know what ski area in Vermont the chairlift came from?
