It's absolutely ridiculous that there is a market for that sort of thing. I wonder if a house like that is bought by a corporation, or an individual.

Spruce Lake Quad Chair for 2007-08 season!
Holiday Valley's President and General Manager, Dennis eshbaugh announced that Holiday Valley will be installing a new chairlift to service the new Spruce Lake trails. The 2900' quad chair will be manufactured by Doppelmayr CTEC of Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Holiday Valley Mountain Crew will be installing the lift during the 2007 summer and the lift will be in operation for the 2007-08 winter season. The base of the lift will be located adjacent to the existing Tannenbaum Express Quad and the lift will terminate at Spruce Lake at the western boundary of Holiday Valley. The three beautiful tree lined beginner to intermediate level slopes that will be serviced by the lift were cut in the 2006 summer during construction of Spruce Lake, a 62 million gallon reservoir used for snowmaking.

That's just crazy talk. First of all, SB has a pretty solid investor group as it is, headed by Win Smith (he's the "Smith" in a little securities firm called Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith). They aren't likely looking for a new investor to come in, let alone one who would be making a decision like that. Second, this ownership group is acutely aware of the important balance between uphill and downhill capacity. There are four options at the top of South, only one of which is for intermediates. In short, the place would be mobbed with both a gondi and the Heaven's Gate triple offloading up there. Someone is yanking your chain.

Yes but knowing this they could do more space between cabins and possibly only a 4 person gondola. They have done this on the GMX and North Ridge chairs at north. How many people have looked up the old gondi line and though how nice it would be to have it again? I know I have!
In my opinion, would it happen, probably not, but it would give an option when Super Bravo goes down, which it has been known to do.

It would be ridiculous to expect Summit Ventures to spend the $8-10MM necessary for a 2400' vert 4 person gondola. You'd end up overcrowding the Heaven's Gate pod badly, degenerating into a Killington-esque experience. That is antithetical to their stated approach.
Moreover, if Bravo goes down, there are already two alternatives - Valley House and Gate House. You can use either one to access the upper mountain. When VH gets extended to the base and upgraded to a triple in a couple years, that back-up capability will be even more robust.
Oh - one more thing. SB would have a VERY difficult time siting the summit terminal on top of the actual ridge up there. That's why Heaven's Gate is not at the actual summit - USFS wasn't a fan. This whole idea is a pipe dream that isn't even a good idea int he first place.

Northstar has plans of installing a second detachable on the backside of Northstar, but this project has been delayed.
http://www.sierrasun...7/NEWS/70206013
Does anyone know if Northstar will reuse these two detachable quads or sell them? In the article, it says that new terminals will be purchased and that the proposed backside lift will also be a new HSQ.
It might not be a bad idea to replace Bear Paw with Arrow, especially if it's only 13 years old.
I personally feel the current setup is better than the proposed one since it keeps the beginner skiers on the Arrow Express and more advanced skiers on Comstock Express. By making both lifts into one means it's going to be one heck of a long ride to get to the top with beginners having trouble loading and unloading the lift.
