Cataloochee is talking about building a new chairlift that will supplement Omigosh, and reopening High Meadow run and opening Roger's run. This will happen in 2007 or 2008.

Please take lots of pics of the Spirit HSQ, it is very unique, a Borvig/VonRoll with bubble chairs.

Correction to last post: I will try my best to take a lot of pictures. I may not be able to go on Sunday due to bad driving conditions in CO. I am trying my best to get there but may not be able to. I am going again a little later this year so I will get them somehow.

Hawksnest was trying to put in a Quad lift, but it may never go in, but if they do sucseed over the town of Seven Devils, they are going to put it in to replace the golf course. It could go in in 2007.

The Sunnyside FGT at Mary Jane (part of Winter Park) is really starting to need an upgrade. Not sure when this is supposed to happen in relation with the HSS due to be installed to replace Timberline but there is always a huge line on weekends and with so many misloads, the frequent stops and slow-downs make the line even worse. HSQ would be nice but hopefully the chairs will not be spaced too close together as this may make slope congestion a problem. There is good intermediate skiing back there but the constant lift misloads are really creating a problem. We'll see what happens the next couple of Summers.

Big Mountain, MT is spending $5.2 million this summer to reconstruct the Glacier Chaser Express by replacing it with all new equipment, probably similar what Mt. Bachelor did with the Pine Marten Express last summer.

It sounds like the former Glacier Chaser Express will be relocated and will replace the Swift Creek double since it's only costing $1.6 for this project.

The Master Plan for the future has plans to replace the Village Quad with a high-speed people mover, probably a cabriolet.

It sounds like Leitner-POMA will be building the new gondola and chairlifts at the new Revelstoke Mountain Resort, B.C.

That's huge for L-P, Right now their plan calls for 25 lifts in the next 10 years. Of course plans can change. I thought it was interesting how Tamarack went with L-P their first year and then switched to DoppelmayrCTEC just one year later.

Can you really use parts from a double chairlift for a HSQ? And will Glacier Chaser still remain a HSQ, or will it be upgraded?

The only thing that can probably be reused from the Swift Creek double are the towers if the engineers give it an okay. However, I have no idea if the Glacier Express will be upgraded to HSS or not.

If you go to timberlinelodge.com, you should be able to find a map of where the new lift will be located along with the runs.

The new Swift Creek Express is using the parts from the old Glacier Chaser Express. The Timberline Express is now called the Hydro Express (stupid name) and info can be found here http://www.timberlinelodge.com/current_new...lcreekbasin.php

Wow, that's sure up there for the stupidest names. Maybe it will have a cool nickname like H20 Express.

With the recent name change of the Timberline Express to the Hydro Express, I wonder if this means that the 'planned' gondola will then be called the Timberline Express?

Does anyone know when the Mt. Hood Ski Bowl/Timberline gondola is supposed to start?

The new UNI-GS will be to the west of Empire Express and will open up some new terrain for us and accomodate more ski-in and ski-out real estate opportunities. The lift is to be purchased by the developer and owned and operated by the resort.

I had an email exchange with Dax Schieffer at Big Sky......he answered some of the questions about lift replacement for me.....

excerpt from e mail

Lone Peak Triple and Gondola are definitely on the list, doubtful for Challenger or Shedhorn. When they replace the Gondola, they are going to make the base station closer to Explorer, but finish in the same area as existing gondola unloading shack, it will spread out the congestion in the base area which will be an improvement
