I would say chair 23 at Mammoth is the steepest I have been on.

maybe when they were built differently, or maybe when they were planned, it was the safest way to do it. It may also just be coincidence that they get some steeper sections than other lift brands. When some of these old riblets get replaced, we will see if it really was nescessary or not.

the maximums per tower are:

Riblet, Hall, PHB, Heron: 4 sheaves
Older Pomas and Doppelmayrs, Yan, Newer Riblets and Halls, Samson, etc.: 8 sheaves
Müller: 12 sheaves
Doppelmayr, Poma, Leitner, CTEC, etc.: 16 sheaves
Garaventa: 24 sheaves
Hall portals: 8 sheaves
Doppelmayr lattices: 24 sheaves?
Most of the portals: 32 sheaves

I know for a fact Muellers are more than 12. Maybe newer ones are different.

I'm not 100% sure, but it's what I know.

Müller Towers description on www.chairlift.org

You can see there is a limit of 12 sheaves per side on line 14.

Before it was removed a few years ago this was the official steepest lift in the world. It was located at the Diablerets Glacier (Glacier 3000) in switzerland. I took this picture in 1993 from one of the cabins as the visable one passed.

the old Beaver Lake Chair at Summit West on Snoqualmie Pass, was quite steep, atleast from what i remember when i learned to ski at Summit West. It seemed to immediately go over this huge drop off with water below and the lift way above the ground, straight up the mountain, and with only maybe 300 vertical feet of elevation gain, and a ride time of perhaps a minute
