Possible New Lifts for Summer 2007

Ghost Town in the Sky in North Carolina plans to replace the double chairlift w/ a triple. Not sure of the make yet and whether or not it will be new or used, but it should be a welcome replacement as the old chair was quite the maintenance nightmare.
Hopefully they will also upgrade/replace the inclined railroad as well.

It sounds like it's going to happen next summer.
However, I'm not sure when the 8 passenger gondola that will link Mt. Hood Ski Bowl and Timberline with Government Camp will be going in. I'm guessing when the 'proposed' Government Camp Ski Village is finished.

Looks like Northstar is planning on installing another gondola. I'm not sure when this is planned to be installed, but I found this 3D image on SE Groups website.

Any new or replacement lifts at Copper next year? I assume since the R & S chairs now have the new CTEC Garaventa chairs on them they are there to stay for awhile. That probably does not leave very much original Yan equipment still on the S lift. Just as well, I like the S lift the way it is, I was hoping eventually R could be replaced and extended so it could be reached from the top of Eagle though (bottom moved down) but thats allright.
I have noticed that lift 4 at Loveland is the only lift that remains the light blue color (chairs painted light blue), the chairs on the rest of the lifts have been painted silver except for #5 of course which is not used anymore and they plan to remove. Does that mean 4 could get replaced soon??
Last I heard at Mary Jane (at Winter Park), the Timberline HSS is on for this coming Summer. Apparently the plan is to move the current double Timberline and replace Looking Glass. Interesting, replace a 42 year old lift with a 35 year old lift. Although the Timberline was mostly redone with new drive and terminal when it came to Mary Jane in 1992. Seems as if they should just replace the chairs on the exising Looking Glass with the bail style chairs (as Breckenridge did on many of their Riblets) and leave it there but maybe (recalling my 20 minute ride up Looking Glass last season) there are mechanical reasons for doing the way that is planned.
Not sure what is next at Aspen/ Snowmass, possibly a beginner lift to the right of Elk Camp chair serving that flat section (I have forgotten the name of the trail) That would make a good beginner area. Not sure when Big Burn/ Sheer Bliss replacements are slated for. I actually don't mind those lifts the way they are since Coney Glade was spared (Can ski Bliss's trails then continue down to Coney Glade and ride Glade and Burn back up with minimal lines).
I also heard somewhere mentioned that chairs were available from Keystone's A 51 (Formerly Pack 2) and Discovery (formerly Checkerboard) lifts. Does that mean those lifts are being removed this Summer??
Any idea on what they are being replaced with? To my knowlege the only lifts of the same vintage of those two which have been removed as of now were the Ida Belle and Pack 1 (formerly Go Devil).
It will also be interesting to see what A Basin does. The Exhibition lift replacement sounds like it may happen soon although I'm not sure if they would upgrade to HSQ or FGQ. That lift will stop and slow ALOT if a FGQ goes in there. It would be nice if they did with Exhibition and Norway what Alta did with Collins and Germania (HSQ from bottom of Exhibition to top of Norway with mid-station at the bottom of the current Norway.- remove both current Exhibition and Norway lifts) but this is not in the plans. The lift in Montezuma basin (backside Norway and Lenawee) looks like it could still be a couple of years off).
Those are about all of the Colorado possibilities I know of for this Summer for now. If anyone knows any more details or of any other projects, it would be interesting to hear about them.

Wait, lets take a few steps back. R and S got new chairs this year? I don't believe anyone has mentioned this yet unless I am missing something. What type of CTEC chair? I presume the vail ones?

THE SIERRA (S) LIFT had an incident that started the precautions involving installing gussets to reinforce the "taco" joint on the Yan lifts (a chair separated at the taco joint near a terminal and dumped three people off who sustained minor injuries- Maybe someone from Copper can fill in the blanks if I am missing something). R & S had the same style chairs so they probably decided just to replace them. This makes the third set of chairs which have been on S-Lift!

Just to add, the chairs on R & S are the stealth-style chairs and have safety bars (or whatever the politically correct name for them is now). I don't have pictures but I beleive those lifts (or at least R) is due to open this weekend.

Yes, we did get all new chairs for R and S. They are the old CTEC-style triple carriers with restraining bars- quite comfy, and the bars are beefy and should serve nicely as they sit lower than most do. I thought I had some photos but not yet. Our DoppelYans are now DoppelYanCTECs

Understood, it won't keep me from riding S lift- that is some of the best terrain on the mountain, you all seem to take very good care of the lifts from what I have seen over the past 30 years of skiing at Copper. Do you happen to know if R & S are there to stay for several more years or have they decided on future improvements on that part of the mountain?

Our currently approved master plan calls for realigning and lengthening S-lift to where it will top out at the ridgeline east of the Motel 6 building (no timeline on that). R-lift will remain as it is for the forseeable future.

Wait. Isn't Motel six the lift shack on Tucker?

For those who haven't seen it, Tucker Patrol is made from the two old shacks from B-1 lift, welded back-to-back. Motel 6 is the unofficial name for 6 Patrol, so named because the building sits at the top of Chair 6 (Mountain Chief).

Did S's capacity get upgraded, or is it still only 84 chairs?

We're getting a FGQ next summer, it was just annouced and the demo chair is in the lodge. I'll try and get a pic of it when there is not a bunch of random people on it :)
