Is anyone here planning on getting a PlayStation 3 this Friday (Nov. 17)? I'm thinking about getting two, but I'm not sure yet.

Sony originally planned on releasing 400,000 units on Friday, but it looks like that number has reduced to almost half (200,000 to 250,000), the amount that was released when PS2 was released in 2000.

I was concidering getting a wii but cant justify spending the money on something I dont use much. I may get one down the road once all the hype and the price goes down. Also waiting allows for all the bugs to get worked out first.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

A Playstation 3 sold on Ebay for $9,100 this week. Talk about making a great return.

When I got to Target tonight, everyone was already in line for the amount of units it was going to be getting and same at Wal*Mart. However, there is going to be A LOT of pissed of people tonight. Most people that I talked to tonight had intensions of selling it on eBay, but eBay is only allowing people with feedback of 50 or higher and a feedback rating of 98% or higher.

Its all about the X Box, I think. I don't play much but I like the games and graphics better on x box. Also $600.00 is crazy,, thats a pair of skis or a tool box!

I must admit that people are willing to kill people over these systems, but I think things are pretty safe here in Eugene to get one. However, Eugene's sister city Springfield had a scary incident two days ago. Some people were waiting at Circuit City and two guys came up to people waiting in line and robbed them all at gun point.

Thats crazy. Considering that XBox 360 is apparently better, why not just spend $500 on a 360? Am I missing something? Is PS3 better than the 360?

The PS3 has a lot more features than the XBOX 360 has. For example, it has the best graphics card available for any game console and has a built in Blue Ray player. Right now, a standard Blue Ray player costs $1000 so you're saving quite a bit of money right there.

But you're right, I'm not sure why a lot of people are paying that amount. But I guess if people are rich enough and can afford it, why no then. It's supply and demand. The higher the demand, the higher the price.

However, Amazon.com was the place to go if you wanted to get a PS3 without waiting in line. On its website it appeared that it wouldn't even be selling the system do to the fact that their was no Playstation 3 item page. Most of the time there is a page that's setup before an item goes on sale. However, I presume at 12 AM EST that Amazon.com secretly posted the Playstation 3 page and started taking orders. They are all sold out now but it was the hidden Easter egg if wanted one since no one really expected Amazon.com to sell it.

What I find weird is the fact that Sony and Microsoft are making cutting edge systems while Nintedo is coming out with their new system soon and it will not be nearly as graphically advanced as the PS3 or XBox 360. Now the Nintendo Wii does have a cool motion sensing controller but that is pretty much as far as the cutting edge features go on their system. From what I have heard from my friends, the Wii will not have as good graphics card or CPU. The only real advantage for the Wii in my mind is the price ($330 Canadian Dollars). Although it may not be as good, some people still may get it just for the new version of Zelda  (thats what my friend is doing).

Any thoughts on the Wii?

As for me, I hardly use the first Gen. PS2 I already have. :wacko2: So for now, I will stick with my PS2.

Im not gonna buy one (never have bought a console before either). Why not just do a $700 upgrade to your computer?

I agree.

My friend built his own computer this summer and it is amazing. He games on it and in my opinion, his computer has better graphics than XBox 360 by far. The only problem is that it costed a heck of a lot more than $650

As for my computer, it could take a bit of an upgrade too. :cursing:

I just can't believe that there are people getting $10,000 for PS3s on ebay since there was such a low supply. Now I wish I had gotten a few.

Apparently Amazon.com sold out within 30 seconds, so some people knew. I have never bought a console before and don't really play many video games.

Sheesh! That comes to about 3.25 billion dollars - if they all sell for $12,000.

I smell a rat here. If PS3s were available in such limited quantities - as claimed (I think that only 400,000 were alloted to the U.S. market) - just how did 27,000 of them show up on Ebay? How'd they get them in advance of the product debut? This is market manipulation without a doubt - the harvesting of money without so much as a shread of honest work. "Well, that's America" as Arlo Guthrie once said, and the folks that are willing to pay such a ridiculous toll are the legal prey of those that seek it.

I am depressed.

PS3's were released in China first. Some people traveled there to stock up on them to sell and keep for themselves. This is how some were on Ebay quite early. China relaesed them like Monday or Tuesday.

Ebay has strict rules for allowing people to sell their PS3 unit before it was released if they showed a picture of their receipt, had a 98% review rating and more. Also, ebay members were only allowed to sell one unit each.

But I think it makes sense for 27,000 people to sell their units if they can make 3 times the profit from doing that. It's all supply and demand. A low supply with a high demand equals a high price.

I don't think the Asian PS3 console will work with American games on it so it's kind of pointless to buy. I know that one of the video game stores here in Eugene got a PS3 console like 8 months ago.
