While we're on the topic of Big White, a few off topic questions.
1. What make is the Alpine T-Bar?
2. Where did the Falcon chair come from? (I don't think it was all new)
3. What years did the Cliff platter exist?

Alpine T is a Doppelmayr CK800D
Falcon was the old Ridge chair, removed in 1989 rebuilt in 1992 as the Falcon
Platter built in 1988,removed in 1998( I think)

So the West Tee was a return from the Powder Triple area? Interesting to see the maps because I know nothing on Big White history.

Bill, I think the skitrails.org site should be revisited. I think the best way to do it would have it be a very simple site design, and be completely user supported. Anyone could upload a map image and type in the year, and it would go up automatically. I don't know if that is a viable system or not, but I bet people from this site would upload lots of maps. You should also make sure people only upload high quality, complete maps, unlike skimaps.com. They have so many tiny maps that can't be read, and maps that are only part of the mountain. I think if an easy system could be set up that doesn't take too much of your time away from skilifts.org it could be really cool.

It was destroyed in an Avalanche was it not, the platter?
The avalanche was a result of control work, it was a path we had never seen before. The slide went straight down, went right 45 degrees then straight down again about 150 metres right of the original slide path.

The west t was a bunny lift that started about 200 metres west of the ridge chair bottom station and was about 250 metres long. It had one run called rookie. It was later called the freeloader as no ticket was required. A bar located in a double wide trailer paid the bill for operation. Back then to sell liquor on sundays, you had to have a recreational licence. I guess if you ran a t bar you could get a licence.
It only had one operator, so if the safety gate went out the operator had to hike to the top. Guess where we sent lifties who pissed the mechanics off ? One of them got even though. After hiking to the top and plugging in the safety gate, said operator had to have a leak, there's a good spot...behind the counterweight !! For some reason the lift would not restart, so I was dispatched. It seemed that while urinating on the lower limit switch he had stepped on the wire rain loop and pulled the wire out of the switch. As a lowly apprentice I was lucky enough to get to rewire the switch. True justice I suppose............

Thats interesting...! I agree with Skier about a trailmap site. I think it would organize all these old maps plus people would surely post more.

I'm confused, so the new quad was being built and was on the map, but no runs were open in the Winter?
The chair 7 runs were open; the chair 8 runs were flagged (they're shown on the map but weren't actually cut in '90) and the liftline had been cut for chair 8. 8 came two years later, and the White Salmon lodge was finally built in '96. The lower shop, where lift maintenance is located now, served as a small snack bar and ticket office for six years.

I have seen all of those on Brad's site. I guess that is why he always puts the Coloradoskihistory.com stamp on all his photos because people repost them.

A few weeks ago I stumbled into some 1936 WA ski maps (very rare) which was the year before the rope-tow explosion. Only one ski area had a ski lift and that was Mt Baker, showing the path of the Ski Escalator on Pan Dome.

What kind of lift was the Ski Escalator? Sounds it would be a funicular.

I've never seen a photo, but it was installed in 1935 and was a surface lift. There must be photo's out in the world somewhere....... It was destroyed by avalanche in 1936 along with its inventor while he was running the lift, or working on it.

The Ski Escalator was a toboggan pulled uphill by either a steam donkey or early gasoline-powered winch.
