We ran challenger (with much objection of the lift maint. dept.) to see if customers would use it or not. On our best days we got 50 + riders (no profit). So im asuuming we wont open it up again. Plus next year we cant because we are changing the haul rope next summer.

Are you sure? Colorado's lucky to have half that amount in March!

Tiana Enger of Crystal Mountain ski area said this is very early for the first snowfall of the year. Typically the first snowflakes fall towards the end of September.
Last year Crystal Mountain opened Nov. 4, which was the earliest opening in 28 years.
Crystal Mountain usually opens in mid-November. Last year opening day was Nov. 4, the earliest opening in 28 years.
Enger said it's too early to know when the opening date for the 2006-2007 ski season will be.
The National Weather Service says the snow level is expected to be between 6,000 and 9,500 feet through the weekend.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

I do. I haven't been down to Crested Butte. Come March I'm back to skiing in mainly Summit County ski areas, but A-basin can get some huge dumps.

Granted the last few years haven't been great late skiing but for those of us who have been skiing Colorado for 20+ years and have seen the March storms that roll through we know how good March can be. March has historicaly been one of the best snow months for the state and the central mountains of colorado(ie Vail, Summit County) are usualy the resorts that benifit from it the most.
Also Summit County has so far recieved over two feet already. It makes me wish that I wasn't stuck in rain country. But I will be back in Colorado in about a week.
