New lift construction photos

I wan not arguing that the choppers are off on fires but that in addition to the lack of choppers that installing towers with a crane is often done to save money and that the Beck gondola has may towers that can be installed by boom truck taking advantage of these savings. In Snowmass they where planning to install many towers with a crane because most of the line is accessible, in fact they only flew mud to a few towers because they could drive concrete trucks to most of the line. It is economics, it is just as you say, a puny lift construction contract is nothing in comparison to the large government fire contract so chopper owners act accordingly. The lift installer has to decide if the extra cost of flying is worth the time and man-hours saved. I personally prefer to fly towers because it is so quick and it is often the only way due to the terrain or forest service restrictions.

Weather hasn't been great here lately, either, so even if they needed a bird it wouldn't have been able to fly much.

Breck has some of the frame work up for the lower station. However, they still have a very long ways to go.

I went up to Mt. Baker today and got some great pics of the new chair 3 and all of their lifts. I will upload them in just a little while. They are almost done, all that is lift to do is string cable and hang chairs.

Another strange Doppelmayr indeed. Notice how the depresion sheaves on the return terminal are CTEC where as the rest are Doppelmayr. This is probably the first lift to use two different types of sheaves on one lift since the Yan days.

Does anyone know if Doppelmayr has a name for the drive terminal that is used on the lifts at Baker? It seems to be unique to Baker because of the diesel only setup I guess.

New pics of the Portland tram:

The "flying bubble" Gangloff cabins look terrible! They look like something from the 60s or 70s.

They call it the Borg. I'm not kidding. It is indeed unique because Zop and company specified a double diesel drive setup. When we were designing chair 5 in 2001 we could have gone with a diesel main drive and gasoline backup that would have fit in the standard CTEC motor room, but with the double diesel, operation just goes smoother (you can swap from one engine to the other in just a minute or two if one goes down). The last few Riblets Baker built had the same setup, and CTEC took a few pointers from those lifts to design the Borg.
Zop and crew are getting good at building those lifts- when I was up there a month ago most of that stuff was in the parking lot and they were building forms for the drive terminal. I guess after two just like it, the third one gets pretty easy.

Bachelor has gotten a lot done on pm, Snowbird has almost finished up on the bottom, Wolf Creek’s parking lot is filling up. These pictures are from the resort's web sites
I though Breck was getting cwa cabins for the gondola? Also did anyone else notice the AC motors on the Elk Camp gondola dive platform much smaller than the DC equivalent

that sphere thing is actually a lot of fun, I remember riding in one of those during a trip to NZ a few years ago.
