That's good that they're not charging for parking in Miner's and Tailings. But what is going to be at the base of peak 7. Right now there's nothing but the lift and a couple of private houses in the woods. There's not even a public road that goes up there.

There is actualy an entire network of roads crisscrossing the entire area that also connects up with Highway 9 north of Breck. They are all public and there is a large neighborhood on Peak 7+6 of 200+ homes. Ski Hill Road goes straight by the base of the Independance Super Six and the new base development with a day lodge of some sort will be built on the other side of the road with a bridge across the roadway. Ski Hill Road will be paved to that point allong with this development. The parking will most likely be free for at least the next few years but will almost definately become pay parking as the peak 7+8 base areas are built up.

Heres a link to some of the pics I took today of the work completed thus far.

I spoke with the lead installer for that lift on Tuesday and he expects to be up there most of the summer. He figured final approval after load test would be mid-December sometime since the four stations would necessitate a lot of testing.

Heres an idea to not have to wait in lines at the base of peak 8, only ski Peak 8 in the middle of the week and during off-peak times.

Do you guys want to start a new topic regarding what lifts/trails you like at Breck? This really doesn't have anything to do with the new Gondola.
I know it's the General category, but you are wandering.

I can split part of this forum into a new topic if you guys wish. It was starting to go off topic quite a bit.

Hey i was wondering, and am surprised that no one has made any posts with this but...

Does anyone have any pictures or any update on the Breck gondola network?

Isn`t it scheduled to open this winter?

It looks to be progressing rather slowly, only the terminal foundations are up, but as Poma's ad in SAM said last month, The Elk Camp Gondola's lower terminal was installed in 2 days.

Breck's is a much more complicated design too though.

I don't know about that, it is larger, but the design is basically the same. The Elk Camp Gondola also has a curve midstation, the Breck one just has two. Does anyone know if it is one system, or 3 connected systems?

One drive, one continuous rope.

Brecks is not only a complicated instal from a mechanical standpoint but it is also alot of instalation and construction in environmentaly sensitive areas.

I have a mixed response. Sure, it will be able to cut down on driving and stuff, but I'm worried it will crowd Peak 7, as it is one of my favorite places to ski there, and it's great when not crowded, very open skiing and short lift lines. I may also be there around late Decemer, perhaps I'll get some pics.
