Our Cars (The Resurrection)

What kind of mileage do you get with that cdi?

Cool photos, you show the car has a lot of character, something absent from most new cars.

Check this out, this fellow has a smart 4-2 cdi. His mileage record (to the gallon): 105 US which is 126 imperial.

Hybrids are cleaner but I don't like them. Gotta love the Geo's. My friend had one but the city took it. He didn't even bother trying to get it back because the towing/impounding fees were more than the car was worth. Funny.

So here is my fleet:

They may look similar but are very different. The red and blue are pretty rare european import cars. I drive the beige one, brother the red and the blue is sitting in my garage getting restored with a bit of engine and a ton of interior work. The paint is really buffing out nice. I'll be able to make $500-$1000 if I decide to sell it. Not bad for a summer and a little work. We are going to start brewing our biodiesel soon.

Nice M-B collection. I'm in the market for a nice 450-SL 1976-1977 as my first convertible. Know of any available?

I don't know too much about the r107's but they have a pretty devoted following. I think that chassis was used from like 72 to 89 so that is a pretty good run. If you are looking beware of ebay, too many sketcy sellers, don't buy unless you can see it beforehand.

Also never trust that odometer. They are so easy to roll back (I can have mine out in less than 5 minutes) so base it all on condition and how it runs. Service recors always help, as does a pre purchase inspection by a reputable mechanic

In what little I have seen the earlier 450's have the smaller euro like bumpers which are a plus in my book. Compare the two:

Huge US spec bumpers (79):

Smaller early US bumpers (73):

I'd reccomend craigslist, it is a great resource. Good luck and when you get one be sure to share.

Haha, yeah I know Keith! He is a regular poster to our forum. But his mileage was 105 imperial AFAIK (I get so confused with imperial and US gallons...). Because if you convert L/100 km to one kind of gallon, it makes it look a lot worse than the other. Which kind of mileage do Americans usually use, the imperial or US mpg?

My lifetime average on mine is 4.5 L/100 km (link to spritmonitor) but most of my tanks now are between 3.5 and 4... hope to get my lifetime average down under 4 L/100 km by the end of the year.

One of the most fun parts about it is the smart is completly customizable... when I ordered mine, you are presented with a checklist and you build your car completly from scratch, exactly how you want it. Glass roof, paddle shifters, whatever colour body panels (interchangable like a cel phone faceplate!) and tridion cell colour you want.

Here are pics of our family's Mercedes 190 SL by request. It may be a 1960 model year car but it was bought in 1959. They bought it in Europe and used it for a long vacation and brought it back to the US after it was over.

Ok, so heres my elustrious 1984 Chevy S-10. 2WD, 4 on the floor, with the nasty (and now defunct) 1.9L ISUZU motor. They only made these for two years, its a classic!!
It has a whopping Zero HP and gets about 28MPG. Huge (well maybe not) 2 brll carb made by Hitachi. Has passed inspection 22 times. Now, THATS impressive. Shes a bute, eh? Well, she rattles a bit, stud's all the way around all year (gets me up the hill in the winter without fail, well, sometimes its a bit dodgy), starts every day. Daily driver for the last 5 years. Rust primer included.
Do I hear a bid of lets say.....$200? No? Oh come on, it books for at least $450.
Fine. I'll keep her. Shes a good little girl.
Costs next to nothing to drive. Gotta love that.

That SL is very nice. How long has your family owned the car? Very unique body and almost like a gullwing. Don't let the parents sell that one, demand it for yourself. If you don't like it now you will someday as it is already worth a pretty penny and only going up every day.

my moms family has owned it from the day it was bought until this summer when my family took it over. It is nice and original. it even has a mechanical clock in it where it has to be wound every now and then. Roght at the moment we have no plans to sell it though I know that there is a price where if someone were to walk up and offer it, we would sell. but other than that it is good for cruising on hot days.

Below is a pic of my favorite vehicle in my family

My car. Bought it on the 4th of OCT. 246,132 miles when i bought it. Now has 249,132. Paid 1700 for it. I can go 460 miles on a tank. Fun to drive on the snow. (No snow tires).

the pic with the snowgun was done at the Vistors Center in GerogeTown. The snowgun was headed to Echo. I found that out after I stopped to take pics at Echo but could not get close enough to the lift due to everyting they had going on.

Btw. It's a 1985 Benz 190D.

That last one's a nice shot, Limelight. Looks like it came right out of an ad.

Here's another Benz. It's our 1970 280 SE convertable.

Well I had to say good-by to the good old Toyota this week in favor of getting another newer used rig. My Toyota served me well, but the rust was getting to it enough to the point where it wasn't going to pass inspection. Sooo, here's a look at my new ride:

It's a 2004 Jeep Liberty Renegade. This thing is sweet! Doesn't get the best gas mileage in the world, (I got better mileage with my Toyota), but it's what I could afford and when I saw it I had to have it.

I forgot about this topic. I bought my 94 jeep this summer. I love it but i think by May i will be in the market for a newer SUV because there is no A/C and cruise control (cruise is needed in idaho due to long highways, ugh) And i make 4 dollars more an hour now!!

The new Chevy ad. Well, maybe not, they don't make the Blazer anymore :crying: 4.3L V-6, around 21 MPG, better if it's on the freeway, carts the kids around town just fine, climbs Mosquito Pass with a minimum of fuss.
