Is the area where that skiier jumped and grabbed the chair usually roped off? If so was it just because there was competition that that portion was opened up to allow skiers the entire face? Most places i can think of where there is the slightest chance of a skiier contacting a chair are usually marked off, a good example is the powder chair at Big White, almost the entire lift line is roped off as the chairs are fairly close to the snow.

It is normally roped off - you're right it was opened for the comp, however the location where he jumped onto the chair was still supposed to be closed. There's code requirements for vertical clearances - if there's not 4 meters of clearance from chair bottom to snow - it has to be roped off, it has to be maintained at 2.4m even with a ropeline around. The Red chair has a bunch of roped off areas like the Powder chair.

Here's an interesting one, it is of an injured person in a toboggan being taken out of Mill Valley at Stevens Pass on the lift! I don't think I would want to go up a lift in a toboggan tied on to the chair!

I wondered how they got people out of there. Crystal used to have two chairs on old chair 3 where the backrest would fold down; the toboggan would then be slid on the chair and the patroller would ride up with it and then ski it down Lucky Shot.

Can someone post another link to the red resort chairlift video? The other one seems to be down.

that's pretty ballsy...sometimes the operators here get bored and ride up to tower 2 hanging by the footrest. Needless to say they get their asses reamed

Top of Sky Chair, at Cypress from home! I used my dads telescope with a camera adapter he made for it. Took it about 5 mins ago. You can just make out chairs, towers and trees.

In the middle basicly, you can just see Cypress through the trees.

Good job on the shot, maybe if i got a big enough telescope together i'd be able to shoot marmot or something

I set the exposure to 15 secs so it made things more visible as well. Maybe i will try an afternoon shot today (i will put it on home page)

I haven't done so, but i think next winter i'll get a night shot of Snow Valley from across the valley, i think it'd look cool on a long exposure, especially with the busy whitemud freeway behind it.

We could see Cypress, Grouse, and Seymour from Bellingham. Good way to tell if the weather was good.

That's the only one of that type I've ever seen. I'm guessing 1988 poma.
