Okay, that's just really stupid. Why not relocate the lift where the new FG Quad is planned for this summer? I never thought the lift lines were that bad off of the Tombstone Express when I was there. However, the Canyons has moved a lot of lifts around shortly after they were installed. For example, the Dreamscape lift has been relocated twice.
My guess is that Tombstone will be going to Steamboat to replace the Sunshine lift since Steamboat has been wanting to instatll a HSQ in that area for quite some time.

It will be interesting to see if the former Sunshine FGT at Steamboat finds its way to the Canyons sometime soon, maybe they will decide to make Dreamcatcher a triple and not a quad (using the old Sunshine lift). It would make the most sense to reinstall the old Sunshine lift to replace Bashor since they are wanting to replace it (Bashor) with a triple anyway (according to the master plan), but as has been pointed out already, the lift change decisions of ASC often do not make sense.
BTW, where was the current Dreamscape lift before it ran the Raptor line?

don't count on it, zep and timberline both will be replaced w/ 6 packs, but not for this upcoming season. this season will see the reinstallation of the outrigger chair on the backside of parsenn and it will run parallel to hi-lo. they're also planning on opening a gate to first creek on the backside en route to the cirque.
the following season will see zep & timberline get replaced w/ 6 packs and most likely moving zep to sunnyside if there isn't enough $$ to buy a new detach to replace sunnyside. sunnyside will be split apart and be used to replace the arrow chair and the looking glass chair.
also, it looks like iron horse will be kept, original plans called for it to be removed at the end of this season, but with the lines we had for SG this past season, Iron Horse has proved that it is still needed.

Good to hear that Iron Horse is there to stay. Ever since they started running it every weekend, I have skied MJ more on weekends. With Challenger and Iron Horse running, there are minimal lines and minimal stops. After seeing all the problems people have loading/ unloading Super Guage which I don't fully understand, I must say I am not looking forward to seeing more 6-packs being installed. I used to avoid riding the Zephyr HSQ due to all the stops and slows but now the Super Gauge stops and slows ALOT more than Zephyr. Partly is due to loading foot passengers excessively during skiing hours and the other 80 % is due to rider incompetence.

Old Summit hardly ever stopped. Do you suppose it's because of the contour loading or the load gates? We were able to adjust the loading/unloading areas on the Flyer after we installed tire contours, but the load gates screw up any advantage we gained there.

All I know is that getting 6 people out to the "load here" line in 6 secounds with 90 degree loading isn't all that easy. As far as the gates go, I'm not sure if that helps or hurts the cause. With Flyer it at least lets the people know that it's their turn to go. It still doesn't mean that they will.

Before the Raptor lift was relocated to be the Dreamscape lift, it was the Saddleback lift for one season.

Looks Like Tenney Mountain could be getting a new HSQ this summer
From http://www.snowjourn...p?cid=topic9179
"Was at tenney on closing day and I got some news about this summers work to be done. They are taking the double down and moving it over where Venus, Sunflower and the glades are all the way to the top of the mtn. where the tower is. This will add around 200 more vert. with some fine pitches. Where the double was there will be a new hsq. Can you believe it."

You guys are getting
now.
We should create another topic about this and then we'll merge the topics from here into that.

SkiBachelor, last year you posted the official installation lists for L-P and D-CTEC, are you going to get those again?
SkiBachelor
11 Apr 2006
I think so although that list probably won't be done until June for Doppelmayr CTEC and L-P doesn't hand its out until October because lift profiles still might be changed, like hourly capacity.

Another possibility to add to the list would be an HSQ at Tenney Mountain, NH I don't know the name or who may be contracted to do it, but I have heard rumors that it will happen this year.

So the Avon Gondola will happen this summer? It looks like 3 big gondolas are going up in colorado. Vons, do you have a list of all the lifts DoppelmayrCTEC will be installing?
Kicking Horse
11 Apr 2006
The lift that is going in @ BC is called "River Front Express Gondola"
Well that is the name that they sumbitted to the tramway board.

No I only talked to my boss to find out where and when I am needed so no info on anything other. This lift is not very big I think it will be less than ten towers long the site is easy access but US 6, Benchmark Road and the Eagle river all pass under the lift so the rope pull and splice should be interesting.
bottom terminal is right accross the street & R.R. tracks south of the Avon public library the top is just northeast of the ticket buildings at BC Landing

49° North Purchases Quad Chairlift!
With the sight of green grass becoming more abundant in the valleys and the snow pack slowly receding from Chewelah Peak, the buzz at 49° North Mountain Resort is all about the much anticipated arrival of our newest chair lift, the “Sunrise Quad”, scheduled for installation this summer in the Sunrise Basin.
The “Sunrise Quad” was recently purchased from Mt. Ashland Ski Area located outside of Medford in Southern Oregon. It is a 1989 CTEC Fixed-Grip Quad that measures 5,000 linear feet and has a vertical rise of 1,470 feet from the bottom of Sunrise Basin (elevation 4280’) to just shy of the summit of Chewelah Peak (elevation 5750’). There will be 21 towers, including the top and bottom terminals, which will support this top-drive lift. Boasting beautiful galvanized tower caps, carriers and glassed-in top and bottom terminals, this is one modern lift. The Sunrise Quad will be the flagship of our resort and will be situated on both United States Forest Service and privately held land (owned by the Eminger family).
After being professionally removed and stored by Mt. Hood Meadows (where the lift was originally installed in 1988), Mt. Ashland Ski Area purchased the lift in 2001 to be installed within their permit area but was eventually unable to do so. Our Mountain Manager, Eric Bakken, received word at the NSAA Spring Conference at Squaw Valley Resort in Lake Tahoe that the lift was “on the market.” Shortly thereafter, a road trip was made to view the lift first-hand. An offer was put on the table a month later and the paper work process began.
With a scheduled delivery date of May 8th, 2006, 49° North and our Sunrise Basin will be the proud new home of this beautiful lift. This will be the first addition of a chair lift at 49° North since the arrival of Chair 4 (a Riblet), which was purchased from Sun Valley Resort near Ketchum, Idaho in 1980.
After ten years, and thousands of hours moving through the permitting process with federal, state and county agencies, this dream has now become a reality. We have a lot of hard work in front of us this summer, but soon, all of you will be able to experience the Sunrise Basin by looking down from high above.
I wonder why Mt Ashland can no longer install the lift that got approved?

Probably because the environmentalists shut the project down since the bottom terminal was going to be located on something called 'wetlands.' A mushy area where water is unable to sink fast enough to become ground water do to surface tension or sometimes the locatoin of the watertable's surface. Here in my town of Eugene, I guess wetlands are everywhere the enviromentalists say. If there is any standing water in a field after a heavy rainstorm, it's pretty much classified as a wetlands here.
Bogus Basin's Deerpoint and Morningstar lifts are located on wetlands and I couldn't see any serious problems that were caused by the lifts being built on them.
I don't understand why environmental groups raise hell over something they probably don't even care about. I think this is just an excuse they like to use since they hate the fear of change. A new lift equals more people, more people leads to more congestion, etc.
