I picked up this weeks Pique Newsmagazine today and it has a article with some stats about the new lift. Some stuff we havent seen so far.

I am with Rob, if it were easy enough to just add terrain and lifts, Whistler would have done so. Reading older posts, there were attempts to expand lifts and such and they were denied. This makes very good sense as Whistler is a destination all season resort. There is more to Whistler than skiing, the hiking is great and like Rob said, you cannot do this anywhere else in North America. This is the right terrain and atmosphere to make this work. There were two lifts not HSQs planned for Flute but they were declined.

New News! We went up to Whistler for the day today and went to the open house, i got pics of most of the information boards and a side view of the lift (plan) was there. All the sudden this sounds pretty iffy because they want someone to invest 75% of the cost into it and no one has been found yet. I will post more later.

The 75% is reversed, They are looking for a $15 million investment into a $40 - $50 million dollar project.

Another issue has arisen that we are trying to resolve. I can't post more details until the official announcement is made either way.

We had a staff meeting today to hear what is going on with new lifts. The P2P tram has been delayed a year. The company was unable to put together all the details in time for a construction start this year. We are continuing with engineering and architectural work this summer and construction should commence early next Spring.

On a more positive note. We are proceeding with the construction of Piccolo chair in Symphony bowl. It will be a Doppelmayr CTEC detachable quad with initial capacity of 2400 pph. The lift is 2112 metres long (6929 ft) and has 509 metres (1670 ft) vertical rise. The top (drive) station will be near Piccolo peak and the return (tension) station will be about 125 metres vertically below the Burnt Stew skiout road. Cost will be nearly 7 million dollars.

This info will be given to the press tomorrow, so there should be some more details available then.

I drew two basic liftlines on the inset, Aussierob, do you know which one it is?

WBSKI, The top of #1 is correct, move the bottom down hill a bit further. We expect to put the capacity on that chair up to 2800 pph in the next couple of years. Don't hold your breath for Flute, but a chair coming back to harmony ridge is probably in the cards in the next few years.

Aussierob, why are they making all the upper mtn runs Blues now? Theres practically no greens left...

What you're looking at is a map of whats there, rather than a plan. I'm not aware that any runs have been re-graded fro green to blue. The reality is there is not much beginner terrain on either Whistler or Blackcomb. There is quite a variation in the blue runs however.
