The Knob Chair at Marmot Basin, Steep, fast, high and very windy. Stopping on the high point of that lift, or in the middle of a howling snow storm is not fun.

The last span on the Riva Bahn at Vail just because it sneaks up on you. But truely there is little that scares me on a lift.

The OLD tram car at Jay on a really windy day, especially at the high point (330')! The new one isn't so bad!

The Slide Brook Express while going over the first of four gullies coming from South to North, when the lift stops. You're about 80 to 100 feet up in the air, and it takes about 4 seconds for the force to travel from the drive through the cable to the other end. You can see the chairs moving on the facing hill before you actually start moving.

How about the Millicent lift at Brighton UT between towers 12 & 13. That is way up there!! The lift made an E-stop once when the chair I was on was going over that section and it made me grab the center bar very quickly and hold on tight!

One is River Run Gondola where it stopped for 15 minutes and then started going backwards. I also hate chair 2 at Loveland (especially when it's windy) and Morningside lift at Steamboat scares me at around tower 9.

River Run also runs at reduced speed, I believe 750fpm and while not as prone to the wind as Silver Queen we have had such bad winds that it has been closed for a good portion of the last two days.

Scariest lift rides?
I can think of 4 right off the bat.
1- The old red summit chair at Magic Mountain VT. Everytime you get off at the top, you count your blessings. Line gauge is all out of whack, almost every tower clips, and just about every sheave has a flatspot or two. They rope evaced it a few years ago for a blown 24v fuse. The lift mechanic had the day off. The evac took 4 hours. They only have 2 ski patrolers.
2- The summit gondola on Ajax at Aspen CO. Just for the sheer hight of the towers, the claustrophobia of the cabins, and the altitude. When you get off at the top, its straight to the oxygen bar to recooperate.
3- The old Tram at Jay Peak VT right after an ice storm when its windy. Oh mother of God!!!!!
4- The really old single chair at Mad River Glen VT. When you load, there is a little orange disco to put your feet on. If you are not lined up right, you get skewered by the safety bar which comes at you like a javelin from behind.

I was skiing at Steamboat, back in the '70's, the day a gondola cabin hit the slope.
That increased my awareness of ropeways and wind.
My wife wanted to ride down since she was very tired and I convinced her to ski with me instead. While we were skiing down the incident occured.

How about the old Loges Peak chair at Aspen Highlands. Towards the top the chair ran along a narrow ridge and you could look down 4000 feet on either side of the ridge.

yeah...Millicent at Brighton Resort for me! I was like 11 or 12 and the lift stopped right over a huge drop...right before the lift starts to make the climb again. Of course it has to be windy when you stop over a huge drop like that too
