So as I was searching some sites when i found some websites talking about a mysterous lift up at Hyak and given that I just went skiing at Apental for the first time I would like to ask if anyone knows about an abandoned lift at Hyak called the Dinasour and if it could ever run again

Jack over at hyak.net is our resident expert on the dinosaur at hyak. But yes that is an abandoned lift at Hyak. That lift hasn't run since the mid or early eighties, it was owned by Pac-West when it had a mishap and some people were injured. When it came to putting quite a bit of money into maintaining it, Pac-West who was hard for cash opted to mothball it rather than fix it, so there it sits. As for running again, no its been ripped apart and isn't functionable anymore. Booth plans on removing the lift and adding a HSQ in its place, as well as removing Keechelus. The Silver Fir (at Summit Central) could be a candidate for removal and put on the backside of Hyak, Booth has the go ahead to expand into Hidden Valley again.

The last time I rode C-1 was in 1989 or 1990, I can't remember which. So it was operational at least that recently. If you gave me a summer, four guys, and a modest budget, I could make that lift run again. There's not really that much wrong with it- it just needs an intensive lubrication program and a complete rewire. But neither of those are difficult. What would be hard is getting it relicenced... :help:

Well if that is the case, give me the wiring diagrams and a few tubes of lube and I can attempt to do that, might need a few new sheaves and few new chairs and a new unloading ramp too... :)

I would think that most of the sheaves would need new bearings after sitting for so long... probably liners too. Maybe even the return bullwheel bearings. But like liftmech said it wouldn't be too bad - it would be kind of fun bringing it back from the dead :)

Sure thing- I'll send you my grease gun and we'll dig up the old schematics. :D I don't mean to come off as bragging. :( My estimate is based off what I saw of that lift several years ago, and I haven't been to Hidden Valley since the lift was running. Seriously, though...

Backside is in bad shape... but, just maybe, they could get it working for the next destruction video. :)

I'd love to bring it back from the dead. I had a lot of fun skiing that lift back in the day...

We could raise money and do a documentary... call it This Old Lift... or something and then destroy it. :)

hahaha! That would be cool! I'm hoping that the new owners will want to replace the Red chair, so we could do some "testing" on it!

I should really convert that Eskimo lift to digital format so I can put it on a DVD-R.

I tried with my tv-cap card and it didn't turn out very good at all... all the colours were over-exposed and too bright for some reason, and I couldn't fix it!

Its not the best quality to begin with, but at least if I can keep it the same it wont deteriorate.

thats what i thought. Well lets see. Someone here in the tahoe area must have gotten rid of a riblet recently, so parts could be salvaged......

Hey KZ - you must have read my post in the 5 seconds before I changed Riblet to M-Latta! :D
