Long Lifts

What is the longest fixed grip chair you have ever been on? For me, it would be chair 9 at Mammoth.

The Burfield quat at Sun Peaks. That thing is over 9000 feet long and it feels like it takes 25 minutes to get to the top. I wanted to get some more pictures of the lift while I rode it up, but I caught a ride with some fellow ski patrol guys who I rode up earlier that day and they had their sled and stuff with the restraining bar down so I couldn't reach into my pocket to grab my camera. I was going to ski down and ride it up but who wants to ride a slow fixed grip that long up again!

I've only ridden that chair from the midstation and that seemed like it took forever.

Sunpeaks Burfield quad I believe is the current longest fixed grip in north america. At 2.4 meters max that is gonna be at least a 20 minute ride.

Hmm, Chair 9 is a long one but it isn't really that long, only an 12 minute ride. The Quad at Homewood is extremely slow as well as chair 4 at Kirkwood. 4 is almost a mile long and runs slow.

9 at mammoth is 6000 ft running at 500fpm so its 12 minutes
4 at kirkwood is 5100ft running at 450fpm making it about 11 min, 25 seconds
10 at kirkwood is 5750, so that is the next closet to 9 at mammoth for me.

probably not ridiculously long, but galaxy at heavenly is a bad chair to get stuck riding.

Chair 4 at Kirkwood has to be the coldest lift I've ever ridden. Every time I ride it, a biting wind is making things diffucult....that being said, there's some nice terrain to hit off it, so its sometimes worth it.

Motherlode is around 6800 ft, and the old Granite chair was 8500 or so..

I never rode it, but the Northeast Passage Triple at Killington was over 9000 feet long. They shortened it in the 90s so it's now the Sunrise Village Triple.

Not as long as many of the ones mentioned here but the old Peru H-P at Keystone was a really long ride, as I remember it the ride time was arround 15 min.

Hmmmmmm.

Perhaps the Gondola to the top of Ajax in Aspen, CO.
Real long, and supper tall towers.

However, I do recall riding Killington's Northeast Passage chair before they shortened it.
You thought that ride would never end.

The longest fixed grip I have ever rode was the campground lift at Snowmass. (Riblet Double) We timed it once and it was a 20 minute lift ride without stoping. The new one is shorter and faster because the new lift goes straight over valleys instead of hugging the curve of hill like the old one did.

I know the longest in the Midwest region has to be the interconnect triple at Boyne Highlands. This is primarily used to transfer between the main area and a second peak but it also serves a few green runs. I’ve timed this lift and it takes about 15 minutes to reach the summit.

If we are talking just the length of the lift and not the actual ride time, the “mile long” double at whitecap mountains might be the longest total cable length, but you only ride about a quarter of this length at a time due to the 2 loading and 4 unloading areas. The lift goes to two peaks and spans the gap between the two peaks with unloading both directions at both peaks and loading at opposite end points.

As for out west, vail's highline lift is probably the longest I've been on at about 15 minutes and nearly 7000' or maybe the old Montezuma lift at keystone. (over 7000')

Although a detachable, the original vail lionshead gondola wasn't high speed. At 9548' it took about 20 minutes to reach the summit.

One last thing, hopefully not off topic: is silver mountain's gondola really over 3 miles long? (1990 von roll)

My longest fixed-grip ride was also Vail's chair 10. Loveland's Chair 2 is also quite long; I don't know length but it's got 250 carriers and stops and slows all the time.

The old PCMR gondola ran at fixed grip speeds. They say it was a 23 minute ride on the older trail maps. I think that's the longest lift ride I've ever taken

The old Zuma at keystone was definately a long ride. The old Vail gondola was one of my least favorite lift rides because of the length along with how much it would swing in wind. I dont know how long of a ride it was but the old F chair at Copper was a long ride too.
