I'm going to California Thursday, but I will be at my aunts beach house while I'm down there. I'm taking my laptop of course, but my cousins get really mad when I'm on it. I'm only on there during the night and early mornings, but I will just have to see what happens.

I hope to be hiking up Mt. Shasta three weeks from now. The plans had to be pushed back to a later date because we don't want to have to dig a camp site out of the snow.

Tropical Storm / Hurricane Katrina (conflicting TV reports don't clear it up what it really is) is here. It's a lot less than what I expected. Right now, it's gusting about 40 (they say, I don't know) and drizzling, and it's not supposed to get much worse. I really hope the power doesn't go out, although I definetly expect it to eventually. It's flickered about three times tonight. The cable TV isn't working, I was suprised the cable internet was. We had a half day at school today and nothing tomorrow. I just hope the power doesn't go out, and if it does, it's not too long like last year (new members: 13 days during Frances for us, only 2 or 3 during Jeanne).

We went up to the beach before to see it. It's pretty cool to look at, five or six surfers out there getting some waves. Not really good waves, it's mostly just a choppy mess out there.

Anyway, power may go out, so I might not be here too much the next few days, or if it stays on, there'll be nothing to do so I'll be on extra. Let's see if we can make it through Thursday night with power on.

Next time one rolls through, get some pics and post them. That would be fun to see (but not to experience).

Yeah I was going to take the camera up to the beach last night but he wouldn't let me.
This turned out to be nothing for us, right now, when it was supposed to be bad, it's just cloudy, drizzling, and a little bit windy. Power never went out for us, although over a million further south lost power

Wilma has stalled over the Yucatan in Mexico. It's barely moved out of that spot for the last three days. Right now (Saturday AM) it's on the spot on that map above for Thursday AM. Now its not expected to hit until Monday night, when the tracking maps a few days ago said it would be here on Saturday midday

It's fine here right now (Sunday night at 9:45 pm), but hurricane force winds (74+ mph) are supposed to go from about 8 am to 3 pm tomorrow. It won't be a bad one (at least for the east coast, its coming all the way across the state from the west) but the power will probably be out for a couple of days. Impossible to know, it might not go out at all, or it could be out for two weeks again, but it'll probably be in the region of 3-4 days. Good news though, in the time without air conditioning, it's supposed to cool down a bunch after the storm passes through, into the low 70s, making it plenty comfortable with no AC

Wilma has passed by, leaving the power off but no real damage. We went for a drive around the neighborhood, and it looks bad, but it's mostly tree branches down and not any damage to houses. We didn't see any downed power lines in the neighborhood, which is very good (last year, there were about 10 snapped poles). I got a bunch of pictures from during the storm, which was a Category 3 when it passed over here. The eye went right over us, I got a lot of the pictures during the eye. Right now it is probably the nicest day we've had all year, seeing how there was a hurricane this morning. It's 69F right now, still breezy, clear sky, no need for air conditioning even if we had it. The storm went through here very fast. It got in and out in 8 hours, they say, and now there's not a cloud in the sky only a few hours later. The winds peaked around noon, about 100 sustained with gusts in the 120s, that's what they're saying on the radio.
I'm on dial-up and battery power, so I won't be back much until the power comes back on, but just wanted to give everyone an update.
