The year before it closed I bought a season pass from the Broadmoor for $50.

I remember riding around the old bicable gondola at mammoth a long time ago. I remember being kinda creeped out by how high it got, but that doesnt last too long. I would really like to go now and go biking there b/c they keep the gondola open all the way to the top for biking

Gold Hill lift at Telluride...plus an outragous view! I've seen may folks that choose the patrol sled over a download on that lift.

Both these lifts at Telluride are rated for downloading and can develop overhauling conditions:

Oak Street (L8): 1055 v, 2470 h, 2686 sl = 42.7% (1972/85 SLI/CTEC)
Coonskin (L7): 1845 v, 4350 h, 4725 sl = 42.4% (1975 SLI/Riblet)

There's a portion on Chair 3 at Dodge Ridge that's fairly steep. There's no support on the downhill side for a distance as it has three offset towers, so the light side rides a lot higher than the loaded side. When it stops, an unsuspecting person could lose their cookies :sick2: as it sways up and down a good distance. I've scared the crap out of people on the other side who don't expect to see someone riding down :w00t: ! It never bothered me as I worked the top of that lift every day for two seasons and rode down all the time. Once the :censored2: power went out while I was coming down for lunch!! :cursing:

JH's Sublette Ridge lift is a great ride on the "light side"!

I was just thinking that... Or maybe chair 2 at Loveland over the midstation. Riva Bahn @ Vail is a fun download (and upload for that matter.) Either way you get to go at near 50% both uphill and downhill. As far as a steep lift to download, I would say that the Vista Bahn @ Vail takes the cake. I don't know how steep it is at the Frontside Chute ridge, but you come over the breakover and down you go. Here's an OK picture of it.

I d/l'd Devil's Fiddle at Killington when we were doing maintance on it the first fall I worked there. That was a steep ride! They used to routinely d/l Canyon Quad for early season skiing up till a few years ago, that was a steep d/l. We had to load two people, skip a chair, load two people skip two chairs. At d/ling speed that took forever at the end of the afternoon.

No one gets to download on either of those lifts. When I was foreman of chairs 6 and 9, I recall the company policy being something to the effect of 'if you can't ski down these runs, you get to walk down.' There were occasional sled rides if patrol was feeling magnanimous.

Patrol escorts people down chair 6 sometimes. I have seen it atg least a dozen times. A patroller goes down with the person and they put the skis across their laps.

Why skis across the laps? The lift must be slowed down to let them off.

Usually there isn't an unload ramp at the bottom station.

There's a scenic lift at Lake Compounce, CT that was just awesome. Ride around the bullwheel and the breakover at the top was just amazing!
