We download the Eagle, Flyer, and Excelerator lifts for a variety of reasons, most commonly broken equipment. The Flyer never used to download but this season we're using it as the primary 'taxi' route on that side of the hill. Timberline Patrol (the detachment on the 'flat side' of Copper) is usually too busy to take people down if they're not injured, so we'll send them down the lift. We've had people with broken snowboard bindings, lost skis up on S-lift, people who should be on K-lift but saw green trails on the Flyer's map, et cetera. The best story I've heard so far is the guy I picked up at the top of S-lift after fixing a breakdown. He had lost his ski in waist-deep fluff on Tucker Mountain, made one-ski powder turns down to the bottom of Mountain Chief, rode up, and walked down to the top of S intending to download. I just happened to be there so I took him to the top of the Flyer.

The cable car at squaw is a lot of fun to download, because right after you hit the last tower on the way down, the cliff goes straight down, leaving the car hanging hundreds of feet above the ground. The one time I did it, there were a lot of screams in the car.

If we ever build the 3s between Whistler and Blackcomb, you will be 1500ft above Fitzsimmons creek when you cross it. A couple of cabins may have glass floors.

The glass floors may have the tendancy to scare the :censored: out of some people.

Theres a place for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed potatoes.

"You could say that a mountain is alot like a woman, once you think you know every inch of her and you're about to dip your skis into some soft, deep powder...Bam, you've got two broken legs, cracked ribs and you pay your $20 just to let her punch your lift ticket all over again"

I would love to ride in a glass floored cabin now that I have overcome my fear of heights.

No downloading at B- I was babysitting yesterday and had to ask the lift supervisor because I didn't know. We do download on E but we have to slow the lift way down to load. There is a stop gate at the bottom in addition to the usual one up top.

I'd love to ride the 3S across Fitzsimmons Creek; I don't know that I'd do it on a regular basis unless it was raining in the village but it would be pretty neat once.

I used to download at Crystal when I worked lifts. the funnest of them was C-3 Green Valley, riblet double, there was a part when there are no towers and the loaded line was well below the downside line and when you were downloading and the lift was stopped... well lets just say you needed to hang on.

That was pretty fun. I once rode down chair 6 with a beginner who'd somehow missed all the 'experts only' signs and was too freaked out to ride down by herself. Did you ever download chair 5?

No, when I worked at Crystal, C-5 was a short lift that ran very seldom. Also wasn't on my group of lifts. I was C-8, C-4 and C-7, but occasionally I did Midway, Rexx and C-3.

I gotta get to whistler! Ever since I first saw it, my mouth has been watering. Just so :censored: expensive to get there for a decent trip from the bay area!

Whistler Blackcomb really isn't all that expensive but then again I don't know what your budget is. If you belong to a timeshare group like World Mark/Trendwest and/or RCI, it's fairly easy and reasonable to get lodging at WB. When I went there, my family stayed at the Cascade Lodge and that was pretty fun. If you think about it, the money you will save with the exchange rate on food, loding and tickets will most likely pay for your gas up there.

The Canadian dollar is gaining a lot of strength. Good for me, bad for you guys. :) Our prices on stuff is higher anyway, so you don't really save that much.

We used to buy a Whistler day ticket for $38 USD in the late '90s. Don't think that's possible anymore but it was nice while it lasted.
