Allright folks, I am writing an article for a local magazine about our group and the idea we have in Ogden, Utah.  I just had a big brain cramp and need some help.
What is it called when they clear trees to build a ski lift?  You know, the area below the lift that is cleared through which the lift runs through.
How many people can a tram hold in each cabin?
How many people can a gondola hold in each cabin?
How many people can a funitel hold in each cabin?

Thanks for the help.  Hopefully the brain cramp will go away.  Maybe a little XBOX will help. :D

POMA has a tram with 200 people and Dopp says that there are trams that hold from 20 to 200 people, so I would say that trams can hold 200 at the max.

The Vanoise Express by Poma at Paradaski is the only one I know of that has a 200 passenger capacity.

Poma also did the 180 passenger ropeway @ Samnaun.

Lift line clearing pronounced as … liftline clearing
Be sure to make the distinction between carrier capacity and total lift hourly capacity.
Cost and hourly capacity are somewhat proportional.

All of the capacities I stated were the cabin capacity. For gondolas I think that there is about 400 pph per seat, so a 6 passenger gondi would have a 2400 pph capacity. Not sure about funitels. I think trams would depend on length, cabin capacity, and speed.

Sunshine Village has a gondola running from the Boregois parking lot to the village. It has a turn station(cannot get off) and a mid station(goat's eye) where it turns a little bit more. It was built in 2001 by POMA and it works great! I'ts monocable. I'll try to get a diagram up.

Tyler(Zage) can probably give you more specs than I can, so maybe he'll reply to this topic... :) Tyler, where are you? He skis Sunshine alot.

BTW, This gondola replaced an older Von-Roll six passenger gondola. Tyler can probably give specs on that , too. All I know is that it had CWA Glacier cabins and that it was a von-roll.

P.S.S : When POMA replaced the old gondi, they replaced the towers from the bottom station to the turn station and used the old von-roll towers from the old gondi the rest of the way. This lift has drive at the top(Vault Drive) , but I'm not sure where the tension is. (At the bottom most likely.)

TYLER please reply to this topic as UTmorMAN could use your help!!!!!!!!!

I know that the Sunshine Village gondi has 8 passenger cabins, and not much else. It is most likely tensioned at both the top and bottom stations, because that is what Poma usually does now.

Well, drive is in the top (vault) with two motors and a Kissling gearbox (of course) two V12 Detroit Diesel engine's. Tensioning is at the bottom station. Turn station has two bullwheels and Goats Eye station uses one bullwheel and deflection sheaves. Cabin's can be parked at the top, bottom and Goats Eye (Goats Eye is the main cabin parking area) Brand new Poma tower heads were used on all towers from turn station up, Poma reused most of the old Von-Roll towers (not all of them) Unique sheave assemblies are on certain towers. If there is anything else you want to know, just PM me.

Interesting. But the cabins are 8-person, right?

Sorry, I meant that since it has vault drive the drive cannot really move. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, that makes sense. I'm just used to overhead drives on modern lifts. Does Poma usually have vault gondis?

As I have mentioned, a local magazine ask that I write an article for them about what the idea that I have mentioned here. In my article, I mention a few choices we have: a tram, gondola, or a funitel. As a result, they wanted pictures of the three to show what the difference is. I was simply wondering if I could use a few of the thumbnail photos on this website from the Squaw Valley Funitel. Would that be allright?
Thanks again for all the help you all have given me, this website is a valuable resource. :D

I appreciate it a lot. It will help quite a bit and I think we will put a credit under the photos.

I would like to have more of this in other parts of North America. I think a tram would be the worst option, but either a funitel or mono-cable gondi would be fine. It would be nice to see a funi in Utah, though. Don't see too many of those in North America.

That would be so cool!

we go to utah every spring break

I live in Hawaii, so it's so cool (literally also) to go to utah and their awesome ski resorts.
