Well if you monitor Sam info, they have been talking a lot about Tamarack. Kennedy Funding has loaned out over 55 million dollars for this new resort. 18 million was just loanded out last week to start construction on the base village! Or maybe the total amount that Kennedy was going to loan out was 36 million and they just loaned out 18 more million on some low amount loan to cut trees this summer. Who knows, but I wouldn't want to start a resort from scratch, that's for sure.

Pro: you have your own resrot
Con: trusting workers, building (takes forever) and just getting the investors

Pro:
You get to make all the decisions about what lifts, etc.

Con:
It's insanely expensive
Permits
Takes a long time to build
Hard to get money
You need publicity to get people to come
Need to build restaurants, lodging, etc from scratch (not just remodeling)
Need to build lifts from scratch (no old towers or anything)
Need to make all the trail signs and make up names for everything
Need to get somebody to make a map for you
and more

Bottom line: don't bother

Con: Environmental Hoops -> EIS, Litigation from environmentalists, getting Master Plan accepted, etc. It takes years of approvals and suits to get something done in many places.

I dont think there is actually a website that states that, each state does it differently with different agencies. In Washington the lifts and such are permitted through the parks & recreation department. And land use permits through the forest service, etc. If it was on National parks property then it would be the department of the interior. So each state will be different.

You want to talk to the developers of Tamarack if you want current information. They're the ones with the most recent experience in developing a completely new area. I'll ask the same question as Tyler- what kind of essay is this? What class is it for?

Should be an easy report to do. Just be thankful you don't have to do a speech to go with it. :) I always hated doing those kind of reports.

Um...Why do you have to have evidence to back up your pros and cons on a resort. It's not a persuasive essay and if it was your not supposed to talk about both subjects. You can basically just write about anything you want to, rather than having to have facts behind them on, because it's your opinion.
