Don't get the idea that only Intrawest (the correct spelling) opens one lift and one run. Loveland and A-Basin did that this year too, and they are both independent entities. What to open and when is almost strictly a marketing decision, and that is the same regardless of who owns the area. (Well, Vail operates A-Basin but doesn't own it- but that's fodder for another topic.) Besides- Intrawest also happens to own Whistler and Blackcomb, and they almost always open several runs at one time.
Copper status- E- and F- lifts serving 4 1/2 trails, with the Flyer and two more trails scheduled for this weekend (the 22nd).

isn't 38 bucks a little expensive for only a little terrain

I used to think so, but now it seems like everyone charges a lot for (comparatively) a little. I think the phenomenom extends to the professional sports arena as well- I can't believe some of the prices teams charge to watch them play. However- if it weren't for my job, I don't think I could afford to ski.

Mountain skiing is pricy. Here i can go skiing in about 15 min for $20 can at a local hill which has more terrain open than many mountain resorts.

Which area is that?

That would be Snow Valley. Maybe not the largest hill on the block by any means but it is convieniently located right off the freeway in edmonton. but how can you beat $20!

I was really suprised. Meadows is opening this Thursday, with just their beginner area (3 lifts), and for the past 3 years on the limited opening, tickets have been $20. This year they were $32. Two and three years ago, they ended up opening most of the mountain by later in the day, giving 2 quads worth of terrain, plus the beginner area for $20.
