Seperate drive terminals on old hsq's

Just curious about why older hsq's have an external drive station instead of being in the terminal. Is it because older hsq terminals were full of stuff like shafts,chains and other equipment?

No, it's actually because the engineering hadn't quite been done to put it all in one package. The oldest 'integral' Poma terminal is either '87 or '88. If you take a close look at this terminal, you can see that the drive sheave frame may be in the terminal, but isn't really part of it.Attached File  s_out_.jpg (112.41K)
Number of downloads: 83 I don't know when Doppelmayr went to the complete package, but I imagine it was around the same time. Perhaps Cameron (skiBachelor) can confirm this, because I don't know what the Pine Marten or Outback has for a drive configuration (vault or overhead). Here is a shot of the drive terminal of the Eagle (1989); as you can see there are plenty of shafts all under the orange guards) but the drive train is all there in the terminal

Telluride's Sunshine Express is an '86 vintage Dopplemayr. The drive and the acc/dec machinery appear to be under one roof but are actually housed in two distinct zones and you have to climb two separate ladders to access the various machinery.

Yea, I think that's how the Pine Marten and Outback are set up too.

Does anyone have a diagram or pic of the dopps, I find it hard to imagine it in my mind.

Isn't it odd that "politics" is made up of the word "poli" meaning many, and "tics" meaning blood-sucking creatures?

Is that the reason for the exposed drive shaft under the bull wheel?
Is the drive motor actualy further inside the haul rope than the bullwheel?

This is my guess of how it's set up, based on my very limited exposure to these lifts and ccslider's explanation. I always wondered why the older Doppelmayrs had those three driveshafts down by the unload ramp.

Hey John, your diagram fits the two Doppelmayr hsq's at Nakiska perfectly.(Nakiska is in Alberta Canada). Those lifts are classic Dopps.

The Falcon lift at Breck has a detached motor room on its HSQ. The reason is because the lift was first installed as a 4 person fixed grip then converted a year later to HSQ. They kept the original motor room and just slapped the detach stuff in front of it.

I thought that the falcon was an original detach install.

Actually, Mike is right. I went through my POMA of America installation notes and sure enough, there was a Poma chairlift installed in 1985 at Breckenridge and it has the same length and vertical as the Falcon Express.

Thats where the confusion was between the install dates in another topic. So it was a FGQ built in '85 then upgraded in '86?

It does seem to be different from other poma quads of the same vintage. Does the Falcon model refer to FG lifts that have been upgraded to detachables?
