Howdy! This is my first post in this particular section of the forums. On the weekend, I went snowboarding with some friends at Mont Tremblant in Quebec, my first time there. I spent half the time trying to convince my friends to take the gondola every time. :)

Anyway, here are a few of the photos, with a link to the rest of them.

Upper Terminal for the Telecabine Expresse (Doppelmayr).




I never get tired of watching the whole action that is going on in the station.


Upper terminal of a lift. I can't remember where this one was or who built it.


Lower terminal of TGV (Telepherique a Grand Vitesse? ;))


Midstation (unused! Why?) for a Doppelmayr detachable quad.


I've never seen something like this, a standing-only detachable gondola. Weird! By Doppelmayr.


The door mechanism was of particular interest.


The base area at Mont Tremblant.


And finally, yours truly. It was fairly cold. :)

Awsome those are some cool pictures! Good shots of an inline midstation and the cabriolet.

Thanks for sharing your pictures Iain, they are pretty sweet.

I really like the 2nd shot of the cabriolet that you posted from the top station.

I presume the mid station is only used in the summer time, but I'm not really sure though.

On your site it has a picture and it says the temp is -30C, was that right?

-33 C, actually. And yep, that was right and pre-windchill. :) It was a bit warmer on Sunday, it was only -28 C.

There's another stand-up detachable gondola at The Canyons in Utah. Same type of cabins. Are there any more like that out there?

I've been wondering what the TGV was for a while now but felt stupid askng

There is the one at Mountain Creek, NJ along with the one at Panorama.

Well, I think TGV is a clever joke by POMA or someone French, anyway. TGV is the name given to France's high speed rail network, operated by SNCF. There, trains run at 320 km/h. My favourite is the beautiful TGV-Atlantique.



TGV stands for train à grande vitesse (High Speed Train). I don't know if Tremblant intended it to stand for Telepherique a grande vitesse, but I think it'd be pretty clever if that's what they had in mind. ;)

With regard to the Cabriolet at Canyons, it says it's by CTEC, but the gondolas look just like the ones on the Doppelmayr unit at Tremblant. Are the gondolas built by a third-party vendor, perhaps?

You're right on the money. Gangloff is the gondola manufacturer that makes those cabriolet cabins. However, with Doppelmayr and L-P owning their own cabin manufacturers now, it's only a matter of time before Gangloff will either get bought out or go out of business. I'm not saying that will happen anytime soon, but CWA is owned by Doppelmayr while Diamond (most people have never heard of this company) is owned by L-P.

The gondola cabins on the gondola at Tremblant are actually Gangloff. I think there is only 3 resorts in North America with actual inclosed cabins. Deer Valley, Tremblant and Whiteface.

Going back to that midstation...

As everyone else stated, that midstation is only used in the summer. It is actually used for a type of alpine slide, called the "Luge" in which there is a mile-long cement pathway that winds down the mountain. People ride in gravity-propelled cars which can brake and steer. I think I might have talked about this in another topic...

CWA seems to be the preffered Cabin manufacturer in North America. Even though L-P owns their own company. The diamond cabins are mostly prevalent in europe especially on Leitner Lifts.

-33 C is around -15 F. Not warm.

I believe John is talking about the photo gallery that is already integraded into the forum itself. If you go up to the top of the page and under the picture of the HSQ and to the right, you will see a list of of forum features, like blogs, gallery, help, search, etc. displayed horizontally. Well just click the one that says gallery and you probably know what to do from there. :)

TGV is probably inspired from the train in France, but it can probably stand for "Téléphérique à grande vitesse", because this lift is really fast!
