Yeah, Cushing could really improve the aesthetics of the mountain by removing all the old junk left from partially removed lifts and further removing unnecessary lifts (see my map in Fantasy resorts, minus the addition by silverado ;) ). In the summer at Northstar, you can see that they left the old tower foundations for all their old FG lifts (especially off of Vista).

I don't know. I do know that at one point Northstar had two Yan doubles (courtesy of one of the installers' websites, I don't remeber which.)

New lift to love - Snowflake at Breck. Just because it's got a good right hand turn and a 'bounce through the compression'. I've rode it a few times - nephews get a kick out of it the first time through the 'Great Bend'. I was looking at the photo of it on this site last night and for the life of me I can't recall/figure out how it is threaded. Would this lift be considered to have three bullwheels? It's a great picture but I'm having a hard time thinking in two dimensions!

I like the older dopp HSQs like vail's and keystone's. However I despise the carriers they use. That is unles like at most resorts they have removed the center arm rest.

My all time favorite lift has to be the Quicksilver at breck. Mostly from a nostalgic standpoint but I also spent alot of time before and after the ski day in the old mobile home next to it and rode it every day to get to peak ten.

I wish someone had pics of that lift, it would be interesting to see it now

The chairs on the Doppelmayrs at Vail are pretty bad - the center armrest does get annoying, and there aren't any pads on the seats

Most of the dopps from that vintage in Colorado, at least the ones I've ridden, do not have pads. The Quicksilver was a really uncomfortable ride, no pads and that thing bounced like crazy especially on depression sheaves.

Here are a few of the Quicksilver. First is the chair at Breck, from Brad's Site. Second is from another topic in this forum and is at its new location at Owl's head.

What's wrong about the middle divider with the Doppelmayr carriers? I have never found them to be annoying but then again I have grown up with them my entire life.

The problem with them is that if I'm the only one on the chair I usualy sit in the center of the chair to ballance it. If youre off by a little when sitting down you have to move quickly or get a nice suprise in the backside. It's not so much a problem for me or people who have been skiing for a while but with people who dont pay attention or are new to lifts. There are way too many stopages because people mis-judge the center divider. The worst one was on the quicksilver, It had two half inch rods bent up to form the center armrests. Fortunately they didnt last long.

They got rid of the center arm rests on Comet up at Heavenly. It looks kinda funny seeing it without them.

An old lift I like is chair 5 at dodge. A vintage 62 riblet centerpole with one hell of an unload ramp.

That chair does have a heck of an unload ramp, its similar to the unload ramp on chair 5 a breck. Many of the Dopp center dividers have been removed where I have skied in colorado too, it is wierd to see two 3" holes in the seat and back pad.

I have never seen anyone have trouble with them, but the Summit County resorts do have more beginner skiers than Bachelor has. I have never had a problem about being unbalanced either.

Sit in the centre inside seat and you'll be fine. The dividers are a problem, though, because even with four people on the chair one of the middle two will find a way to sit on it. We didn't even order them for I-lift. As far as pads go, those are standard Doppelmayr issue and I don't find them unconfortable.

The lack of a thick pad isn't a problem the thing I hate more is the center arm rest like at keystone, before they removed them they had to stop or slow the lift at least every 10 chairs on lifts like the peru. Vail also has removed some of the dividers but the chairs that had dividers have gaps in the seat bottom pad.

BTW, right now Ski Area Management is looking in its back issues for the old Quicksilver lift for me at Breckenridge and hopefully they will have it.

Also, anything that relates to the YAN HSQ.

I rode galaxy for the first time this last december. What is there to love about it? The trails are so flat that you cannot even turn lest you run out of speed (reminded me of village run at Northstar), and the lift is incredibly slow and incredibly long. I did find the bit over the frozen pond interesting though (especially with the ski tracks over it).
