I kinda doubt it, but you never know with the crazy wires these days.

The wire might be enough, they don't look much smaller than the ones we have on some of out tall trees.

That there is a grounding rod. We have them on B and E, and their purpose is to protect the bullwheel bearings from becoming a welded mass of metal in the event of a strike. I don't know if they actually work, but they're supposed to. The wire is bigger than it looks; it is at least OOO (half-inch diameter) wire.

Kind of a cool shot, Pieces of the old Powderbowl lift are temporarily stored in the California lodge parking lot up at heavenly.

That's even a newer lift- Yan didn't put windows all around the motor house until the mid-late 80s. I'd take that motor house for Blackjack...

Yes, we have one of these on our T-Bar as well! The bearings have never melted, so I assume it works :)

The reason heavenly is taking it out is because right now they have 2 parallel triples, and 1 6-pack will do the job better, and will probably be more efficient.

Check it out, a portable chairlift. :D

If only you could use this type of lift as an actual ski lift.

The reason for the new concrete deck was snobird's origanal deck was getting crowded as well as that they are putting in a new zip line. The zip line was why they took down the haulrope on Chickidee before the end of the season.

Seems like they're copying PCMR in a big way. They have an alpine slide now, and a Zipline.

What does the Zipline have to do with Chickadee's haul rope? Or was that for the deck construction?

Whats the deal with Ziplines these days? Yesterday in my newspaper they had an article about the lines up at Whistler, now I hear about all these. Has anyone here tried them out, and are they fun?

Well the one up at Whistler looks pretty cool because its long and it goes over a creek and is completely out in the woods not around the village at all. Not sure about the one at Snowbird, but I hae a feeling it would be pretty lame because it would be pretty short if it started up at the top of the Alpine Slide.

Ziplines are a way for ski areas to generate more revenue. We've got one, Breck has several, and I think Vail has one as well. Places open for the summer are beginning to put up more activities besides senic lift rides- alpine slikes, mini golf, ziplines, bungee jumping, et cetera. Personally I think that most of these activities are merely transplants from the city and not really connected with the mountains, but I'm not in charge.

When I interviewed Bob Bonar (CEO of Snowbird) he talked aboiut the need for a resort to break even in the summer and that is basiccally the reason for the zip line and the alpine slide. The reason they had to sut Chickidee's haul rope is because I think that they couldn't manuver the zip line parts etc around it if the haul rope was still in tact.

They couldn't find another location? Even on a short lift like Chickadee, removing all the carriers and the haul rope is a large project.

PCMR claims that they have the longest in the world, with 4 lines running parallel from the Payday midstation to the base. They open it on Saturdays in the winter too. I hear its pretty fun

ziplines are what???

It's a cable without any towers or supports or anything that's strung between platforms. You wear a harness with wheels on the end of a rope. the wheels hook onto the line and you hang from the wheels. You jump off the top platform and zoom down the line until you hit the bottom station, where there are springs to stop the wheels you're hanging from
