Grant asked a while back what a bolt cage was- here is a decommissioned Heron towerbase showing the torched-off bolts and a ring of concrete sealer. This was tower 11 on old G-lift.

Is there something special about that or is the bolt-cage the way they do it now too?

This is pretty much industry standard today, and aside from Yan and Riblet has been for years. The topic came up after I mentioned finding old towerbases while hiking around in the summer, and someone asked what I had seen.

Here are the Super Condor Express at The Canyons and the high-speed lifts look to have been painted. Anyway, I just thought you might like to see what happens when you step on the thin sheet metal that is used only for decoration and not for walking on. :---:

Another shot. It makes you wonder when this problem will be fixed.

Probably not anytime soon- that stuff sucks to work with. To get anything large out of the motor room, you have to remove and replace those panels and it becomes quite a bit like stuffing a sleeping bag back into the factory stuff sack- you scratch your head and wonder how it was done. (The nice thing about sheet metal is that you can cut it shorter if it doesn't fit, where that's not eactly kosher with a sleeping bag...)

seems to be for loading purposes if you look there are upwards of 5 chairs in the terminal. maybe also due to the akward loading arrnagement.

Very interesting loading. Must go around the contour faster since it appears that you load before it, so it doesnt need quite as long as an exit to get it up to speed.

I had to take a second look at the shot- I thought at first the arrival side was the short one. The loading arrangement appears to be 180-degree instead of 90.

Another Question about leintner lifts. Why are the Box beams which the sheave trains attached to turned down 45 degrees only on depression towers?

I can't really see in the picture - but does the beam extend further out past the assembly? It may be a backup rope catcher in case the ones on the assembly are missed - just so the rope can't fling up a great distance.

VonRoll did this too on the Keystone River Run gondola and Solitude's Eagle express. It's probably an extra cable catcher like Allan said

That pic of that Mueller was the old Granite, right Allan? When did they remove that ramp? I first skied Red back in the mid 80s and can't recall a ramp ever being there.

Yes Altaskier, that is the Granite chair. That ramp was removed sometime in the 70's I believe, after a woman tried to unload there got caught up in the chair and fell at the highest point in the bowl. She got up, skied away passed out at about tower 9 after she realized what she'd done!
