Canadian chairlift questions

passengerpigeon's Photo passengerpigeon 29 Sep 2017

Dear community,
I was wondering whether anybody with a knowledge of Canadian lifts could answer the following questions:

•Why were Mueller lifts seemingly so omnipresent in the early days, and why does Doppelmayr have the same status today?

•When did safety bars become required on Canadian lifts? Based on old photos, I know Whistler's Blue Lift lacked them and so did at least one of their Yan triples, but all current lifts seem to have bars, so I guess none were grandfathered in. How prevalent were barless lifts before this law, and were there regional differences like those currently seen in the USA?

Thank you,
Passengerpigeon.

Mueller had (and still has) a Canadian distributor, perhaps that's why? Not sure where Doppelmayrs were coming from at that time.
It was around 1992 when the Z98 started requiring safety bars, and all lifts were required to have them at that time.
None of our lifts had safety bars before the requirement, can't speak for other resorts.
