It's a shame they can't make it a HSQ.

I would assume SkyTrac to be the most likely manufacturer, Sundance has used them before.

Sign at the bottom of Chair 17 in Vail announcing the new Sun Up Express next year. Heard a patroller describe it as sad because it will be the last of an era in Vail, no more fixed grips lifts excluding the beginner lifts and the Mongolia Platter. Based on the sign, a 40% capacity increase over the current 1,800 pph would be 2,520 but that could also be taking the sign too literally too and it could just be 2,400 standard. Also the 4 minute ride time will be very fast for that bowl.

Not entirely true, Chair 20 (Cascade) is and will remain a fixed grip. It is owned by the Cascade Resort HOA and operated by Vail. Vail won't replace the lift and the HOA would scoff at the idea of having to split a $6-7M bill for a high speed lift. It serves its purpose well, an access lift for a real estate development. It is also backed up by multiple bus lines and the resorts own private shuttles.

Ah thanks, it felt like I was forgetting one.

Elkhead @ Steamboat will be upgraded to a HSQ, also expanding their summer operations by adding an alpine coaster and mini golf

Interesting... So apparently Thunderhead will stay as is. There was earlier talk of Elkhead being the relocated Thunderhead HSQ and Thunderhead being upgraded to HSS. Any guesses on the manufacturer? Mine would be L-P.

Le Relais (near Quebec City) is getting a new Doppelmayr 6 pack, with loading carpet. This will replace the combination quad and double t-bar setup.

Elkhead is supposed to become a 6-pack. The article didn't specifically say that it would be a quad.

That lift is the biggest waste of time on the entire mountain, even beating the gondola (which constantly slows and stops for no reason). Takes so long to go nowhere. Hopefully the fewer stops and slows that will happen on the HSQ increase capacity enough to do away with the awful lines that thing currently gets.

I'd rather see a new alignment to the summit of the gondola for Elkhead but real estate there is already tight.

I just found one today that no one seems to have mentioned on here yet. Red River, NM is replacing the Green Chair with a new Doppelmayr quad. From the way the announcement is written, it sounds as though it will run all the way to the top of the ridge where the Silver Chair unloads. This should be a nice improvement.

Wow, I hadn't seen any of that - school's had me busy! If both Challenger and Lone Peak are indeed replaced this summer, that's great news. Hopefully they will be replaced with something much faster.

Just out of curiosity, if they have already confirmed Doppelmayr as the manufacturer, does that indicate that 1 or both will be high speed?

Depends on how much $$$ they are willing to spend.
