You are referring to the old Proctor Mountain and Christmas Ski Lifts, the first skilift ever made. She hasn't run in decades and one of them ended up at Mt. Eyak, Alaska and ran from the late 60s till just last year and appears to have been removed :(

Looks like it's still running at Eyak (though not right now due to lack of snow). Might have just gotten new chairs. Not sure but they look new.

Mt. Eyak single chair is still there, they had to replace the chairs a few years ago due to fatigue issues, the old chairs are for sale if you have money to burn

Oh GOOD. I must have misread it then it made it sound like they removed the refurburshed chairs and therefore the lift was no longer there :( Any idea on who did the chair replacement? I'm guessing it was similiar to what they did to that resort back east that also has that single chair? Mad River Glenn I think?

Looks like Shadow Mountain at Aspen might be getting a replacement:

Snow King sold Rafferty to the Bearizona Wildlife Park for a new skyride lift next year.

Maybe. I read that more as a 'suggestion' from the FIS than anything else.

I would rather see Ajax upgrade Gents Ridge to high speed and/ or replace Bell Mtn and Little Nell with a detatchable chair from the bottom of Little Nell to top of Bell Mtn. The only thing the high-speed lift at Shadow Mountain would do is overload Ruthies and cause horrific lines and make the few intermediate runs off that pod resemble I-70 on a Sunday afternoon. Unless, of course, the lift is extended to the top of Ruthies as the original lift 1 from long ago was. Then, we might have something.

I should have underlined the 'might'. Looks like we'll find out sometime in May:

Would an event such as the one described actually warrant enough revenue to compensate Aspen for all the capital improvements they seem to be demanding?

Not at all. But the FIS really likes their courses to look pretty. This wouldn't be the first time they've dropped events. Just this season, Bormio stopped hosting races due to lost holiday profits.

Upgrading Lift 1A would not create horrific lines or overcrowding in that area of the mountain. The Shadow Mountain area is already under utilized. A new lift would make this area more desirable to ski, but it would not overcrowd the empty slopes. Furthermore this lift would most likely be installed with a reduced capacity similar to the current lift of 1200 or 1800 pph.

Little Nell will not be upgraded but remain as a secondary lift for the Gondola providing access to Lift 1A.

ASC has stated that their #1 priority for the future is the addition of the Pandora fixed-grip quad that will serve 85-acres of new, mostly intermediate terrain.

The second project is to remove both the Gents Ridge quad and Bell Mountain double and replace it with a new lift with a new alignment to serve the east side of the mountain. The new lift they're calling "Back of Bell" would have a bottom terminal uphill from Glade 1 in an area known as Glade Zero. This area is a shelf to the skiers right just where Copper Bowl starts to get steep. The upper terminal would be located just above the top of Knowltons.

These new lifts would be high speed quads (except for Pandora)?

That "Back of Bell" alignment makes no sense to me. It would eliminate the ability to lap Kristi/Hyrups/Walsh's and result in a short lift with about 400-500 vertical that really only gets you back over to the east side of Bell Mtn. Seems like there are a lot of better ways to spend that money. current Gents Ridge lift, with all its flaws, is a much better alignment. I'd prefer they just take the current lift and move the bottom terminal to the base of Glade 0. That would have some actual utility, allowing you to quickly get back up top from Back of Bell instead of being forced to go all the way to the bottom.

Agreed, "Back of Bell" doesn't make much sense. The only good thing it does is get you to the top of bell mountain (which you can't really get to today without a little hiking) My preference would be to upgrade the bell mountain lift and possibly shorten it by moving the lower terminal near the junction of spur and copper. Such an allighment would enable you to lap bell or ski any of the upper mountain runs without having to go all the way down. Honestly though, a lift in this area isn't really needed. The Pandora lift would be cool though.

That would be a great alignment, as it would allow you to lap all of Bell, Glades and (some of) Jackpot/Bingo area while providing a quick return from most of the dumps (vs. going to the bottom of the gondi). That might be a worthwhile sacrifice as against ability to lap Kristi/Walsh's etc..

Snow King announced phase 2 of their redevelopment today with a new 8-passenger gondola replacing the Summit double. Could be another big summer in Jackson Hole with two gondolas going in.

Looks like JMI Equity (owners of Snow King?) is going for the golden touch. Summit is a 1981 CTEC Double. Hopefully she'll find a new home somewhere. A Doppie HSG will certainly improve the 8 minute ride time the double currently offers.

That's the owner of the hotel. The current ownership group for the ski area is led by a billionaire named Max Chapman.

I can't really picture Snow King with a gondola. It just seems a bit out of character
