I guess the drive would not have to be as powerful since the lift will be shorter....

Snowmass moved up the High Alpine Lift replacement to this summer. The new Leitner-Poma HSDQ will cut the ride time down from 11 minutes to 5.6 mintues. The lift will have a new alignment and uphill capacity of 1200 pph.

I guess 2015 will be a busy year in Colorado after all:

Shortening of existing Lift 2 at Loveland Basin, and installation of new Upper 2-Chair (manufacturer unknown, but most likely Leitner-Poma)

Avanti Express lift at Vail (Doppelmayr high speed six pack)

High Alpine at Snowmass (Leitner Poma high speed quad)

Take Four at Powderhorn (high speed quad)

Legends Express at Purgatory (Leitner-Poma high speed quad)

With the addition of "Ptarmigan", this is what Loveland Basin's lift system will look like in 2015, if I had to guess:

Attachement Loveland Basin with Ptarmigan.jpg

I can only imagine the modifications that will have to be done to the existing #2 to end it at the mid-unload. I don't think they'll have to change anything below tower 12 (the tower that #2 crosses over #6 on). But the downhill line on tower #13 will have to be lowered to the same level as the uphill line, and the shack on the downhill side of the line at the mid-unload will have to be moved across to the uphill side of the lift line, not to mention those two half-towers built to create the mid-unload will have to be modified, probably into a single hold-down tower with sheaves on both sides, and possibly a new return station. I wonder why they even modified the reload area to have a mid-unload on #2 in addition to the mid-load back in 2012?

The original Heron double lift 2 from the 50s, 60s, 70s and early 80s had both a mid unload and mid load but there was no detatchable lift technology back then so misloads were probably decreased so maybe they thought it would work today. Most people who ski Loveland have also skied areas with detatchable lifts and become spoiled by them and request/ cause slow-downs and stops because of this. Back in the earlier times, most of the lifts were double chairs and everyone descended with alpine skis so the chances of lift mishaps were a lot less frequent. That is just a guess on my part though, they maybe could not afford to split the lift in 2012 since that was a horrible year for snow and visits were way down and just needed a temporary fix to rebound for a few seasons so they could afford a more appropriate, permanent solution. I still would have rather seen them replace all of lift 2 in its current line with a HSQ and eliminate the mid-stations entirely and relocate the current Yan triple to become the proposed lift 10 on the master plan. I guess this is the next best thing. Hopefully 10 will be built soon. That will be some very fun terrain (it is already accessible via Ridge Cat).

So is the replacement 2B lift going to use the platter's alignment or will it end where the current lift 2 offloads? I can safely guess the lift will almost certainly be a bottom drive, like every other lift in Loveland save for lift 7.

Speaking of Loveland, I wonder if they're ever going to do some modifications to eliminate the midstation on lift 9, since it's not marked on the maps anymore.

Word has it,it will unload where the current lift 2 does but will use the platter lift line on the way up. As far as other upgrades, it would sure be nice to see #5 operate again and lift 10. 9 will likely stay "as is".

I heard about them buying a used lift last year and they decided not to. Sounds like they're going with new. Good for them and their first Quad too.

Thanks for the list. It's nice to be able to see all the lifts that are being installed listed on one page. Nice blog, too, btw!

I stopped by Skytrac in march and they said that they did have a few retrofit projects at that time but no complete chairlifts. The hill-trac part of their company is doing well and they are building a few of hill-trac trams systems in the Park City area. They have also started to produce the CTEC bail style chairs like the ones on R and S at Copper for resorts that like them or need more of them and they have some orders for these too.

"also a six pack at Squaw Valley Ca, LP"

I know this is rumored but does anyone have confirmation that it is actually happening?

Any details at this time on the Mont Cascades quad lift? A promotional board was put up with the announcement. It appears to be Doppelmayr design with a loading carpet, but I'm sure I've seen that image used before in the past.

Any idea if a loading carpet is being installed for this lift?

Thanks.
