very happy to see these upgrades for Powderhorn. If the T4 Express pays off, without a doubt I see them upgrading West End. West End can be an 15+ min ride. I believe both T4 and WE were installed in the early 70s based upon the pictures and this site says WE was put in back in 73.. I drive by PH every summer/fall to do repeater work up on the Grand Mesa. It's a lovely little resort.

The current Take Four was actually built around the same time period that lifts like the Falcon SuperChair and Pioneer Express lift were built.

That sounds about right. It was one of the first small mountains to add a quad chair. Of course back then, they did not say whether it was high speed or not. The current T4 replaced an older double chair which I do not know a lot about.

According to the Chairlift Installation Survey when I searched Powderhorn:

1966 saw the installation of a Riblet Double that was 6093ft in length
1972 saw the installation of the current West End Double, 7000ft in length
1987 saw the installation of the current Take Four Quad that is 6216 in length (replacing I assume the 1966 Riblet)
And the installation of the current Easy Rider Double beginer chair.

I would not be surprised to see quite a bit of the current lift parts reused to create the new lift such as towers and maybe chairs.

I don't think they plan on reusing much more than maybe towers http://www.powderhorn.com/

The towers on high speed quads are the same width as towers on fixed grip quads, so yeah, I could see Powderhorn saving money by reusing the towers. (Here, it might be a case where they reuse the entire tower unit, although the sheave trains get replaced).

On Mountain Creek's Granite Peak Quad, the towerheads are the same width as their two high speed quads (Doppelmayrs installed in 1998). This was because they designed it to be converted to detachable just by changing the terminals and grips. However, CETC towers are generally not the same width. The Summit Quad at Whiteface, and the North and Straightbrook Quads at Gore have narrower towers than the Whirlwind Express at Windham (CTEC HSQ from 1993). I'm not sure about Poma.

How come towers on high speed lifts are sometimes wider than on fixed grips? Does it have something to do with giving more distance between the chair and tower because of the higher speed?

I believe they are using any usable lift part from the lift that was taken down in Newfoundland at Marble... they have been packing them up an shipping them out to GJ to refurbish
Nothing is so perfectly amusing as a total change of ideas.

I've recently heard from an inside source that Deer Valley, once they take ownership of Solitude in May, is considering replacing the Summit Lift with a high speed detachable this summer.

No no no....
Summit doesn't have the terrain to support that capacity. Dynamite is the only cruiser down, everything else is just off shoots of that. Very few people ski Headwall, Corner Chute, Evergreen or even know how to access Cathedral.

True, but it's needed for One Wassatch.

Mont Cascades , Quebec seem to be getting a new quad chairlift for next season. Whether it replaces the existing double or triple chairlifts or will serve a new area and trails remains to be seen. The article also mentions potential development of a full resort village and attractions at the base.

Ski Vorlage, Quebec is also potentially installing an additional double chairlift to replace their t-bar, as mentionned in their fall newsletter here.

That's all I got for now. Any more details on these projects from anyone?

Have a great day.

It doesn't have to be a high capacity lift.

Shaping up to be a big year for Doppelmayr, I count 11 projects...not many for L-P or SkyTrac so far.

Tucker Mountain isn't confirmed, so it needs to be taken off that list.

Solitude's in Utah, so if built, that lift will be built by Doppelmayr by default.

Probably, not definitely. You know how this works. If that were the case we'd have no Doppelmayrs, yet we have four.

Nothing confirmed at Copper, unless I'm really a mushroom and you know more than I do.
