I'm going to put this as simply as I can. Finding a run that hasn't been touched by anyone with perfect powder is absolutely worth the hike. The difference between a tracked up face and 2' of fresh is immense. Now, I still support the lift because new places will open up and it will shift traffic on the mountain drastically. But if that was your spot, I get where they are coming from.

Wow, only 1200 skiers per hour capacity. Seems pretty low for a lift of this cost.

a comfortable ride must be of greater importance than capacity otherwise they probably would've spent the money on more chairs. Looking at the high percentage of expert runs leading to Tee-Pee makes me think 1200 pph is a good place to start.

Vail's CEO today talked about what the PCMR-Canyons lift might look like. "Given the terrain, it'll probably be a chairlift, a singular chairlift, that you can ride up and then down . . . so you can ride it both uphill and then download to the other side"

What type of lift do you suppose it would be? I would guess a detachable quad, unless they think the demand would require a six pack. I'm also not sure why Katz doesn't think trails are possible, unless it has something to do with land ownership issues. Looking at topographical maps of the area, it looks like they could cut some trails from Iron Mountain down to the base of King Con. Am I wrong about this?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was like Riva Bahn, with a mid station that you can ski from if you wanted, but didn't have to. My understanding is that Canyons to PCMR is quite steep and the whole area has so so coverage. I'm no expert on the PC area though.

The area where they would put a potential lift up to Dreamscape/Iron Mountain is quite steep, and south-facing. Right now it's the far end of Pinecone Ridge, the double black hiking access area that dumps into Thaynes Canyon. It would be tough to open that up for the general public, but maybe they would cut a cattrack down from the top on the PC side.

Better question is where it will come out. My guess is they would combine it with a Motherlode HSQ and come down on that side. King Con is already overcrowded and Motherlode is long overdue for a replacement. That's the only lift upgrade needed on the PCMR side. On The Canyons side, probably makes most sense to end at the top of Iron Mountain, but they would need some snowmaking over there to reliably open that early in the year.

The mountain needs a high speed lift badly, Barnstormer was an 11 minute ride and you still needed to take another lift to get to the best terrain at Witches.

Also two more lifts to put on the list as discussed in previous topics: North Peak Quad at Sunapee (recycled Sun Bowl Quad chair), along with the Cataract Triple (recycled North Peak triple chair). Not sure if these will happen in the same year or not.

Does this mean the alpine slide is going away? I sure hope not as alpine slides are 100 times better than the gimmicky mountain coasters. Another example of how society is softening by getting rid of anything and everything with the slightest bit of danger and replacing it with a boring, sanitized, experience that isn't even fun. I've ridden both alpine slides and coasters and on the slide, you feel in control the entire time and that you need to stay in control or get hurt. On the coaster, just hold the handles down and sit there. There is nothing more to it.

The coaster is in addition to the alpine slide. Snow King loses more than $500,000 each winter..the alpine slide is their biggest moneymaker.
